School Meningococcal ACWY Program

A vaccination to protect against Meningococcal strains A, C, W and Y will be offered to 15-19 year olds. The program will provide immunisations in school to Year 10, 11, and 12 students.

Some of the highest rates of meningococcal carriage and illness occur among 15-19 year olds and this age group can transmit the bacteria to people who are at increased risk of infection, including young children. The rationale for vaccinating 15-19 year olds is to both decrease illness from meningococcal W in this age group and to prevent carriage. Reducing carriage in this age group will reduce transmission of the bacteria to others and help prevent infections within the larger community.

Students in years 10 and 11 will be vaccinated on Wednesday 9 August.

Attached is a Consent form and information sheet. Hard copy consent forms will also be sent home with your child closer to the date of vaccination.

Could your child please return completed consent forms by Monday 31 July.

Thankyou
