Maths & Statistics Competition Results

The School of Mathematics and Statistics Research Competition provides secondary school students with the opportunity to understand what it means to conduct mathematics and solve mathematical problems. The students are given a set of eight open-ended questions, from which they choose one. They can then use some of the methods used by mathematical researchers to investigate their problem. They can gather data, simplify, visualise, hypothesise, conjecture and prove. The aim of the competition is to allow students to use their creativity and problem-solving skills to make choices about how best to ask and answer questions about their chosen project.

Congratulations to all our students who submitted their projects for the Melbourne University Maths and Statistics Research Competition earlier in the year. All students were awarded for their participation and a number of Beaumaris Secondary College students were awarded ‘Merit’ and ‘High Commendation Certificates’ for their commendable research. Well done!
