St JOHN'S SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL PARISH REPRESENTATIVE REQUIRED

Last year we established our St John’s School Advisory Council. The role of this group is to support the Principal, Parish Priest and leadership team of the school. Corinne Landicho was the Parish Representative on the council, but with Gavin and Callianne now at secondary school, she has tendered her resignation. Therefore we are calling on any parents who are active members of the St Andrew’s Parish, to express an interest in being part of the School Advisory Council. FEBRUARY CENSUS

All schools are required to complete a census twice a year. The Census collects important information about the numbers of students and staff at all schools in Australia. This data is used to calculate funding for all Catholic Schools. Today we completed our February Census, indicating that our current enrolment is 373.

SCHOOL REVIEW

All Catholic schools are reviewed by an external body every four years. This process helps us to identify strengths and set directions for the coming 4 years. The review will be completed by Mrs Mary Lovelock. During the review our policies and practices will be reviewed to ensure we are compliant with government regulations. Mary will be onsite on the 22nd and 23rd of May and will meet with parents, students and school staff, to discuss St John’s programs and practices.

NEW UNIFORM GUIDELINES

The School Advisory Council has ratified the new Uniform Guidelines which have been developed by the parents on our Uniform Committee. These guidelines come into effect at the start of Term 2.

The new uniform consists of a multipurpose "wardrobe" whereby parents may choose a combination of any items. It can be worn everyday meaning that we no longer will have a summer and winter uniform. It also allows students to engage in sport, dance, bike ed and other activities comfortably and reduces the impact of timetable changes on families. The uniform also has reduced the cost burden on families considerably.

In the coming weeks we will set up a display of the uniform items in the Community Space and will release a guide for parents to assist them in navigating the transition. The current uniform can be worn by students indefinitely, however as items sell out they will not be restocked.

FREQUENTLY ASKED UNIFORM QUESTIONS

My child’s uniform is in good condition, do I need to buy the new one?

No, as long as your child is in full school uniform, they can wear the current one until you decide to transition across.

Are any current items able to be worn with the new uniform?

Yes, the sports shorts, polo top, soft shell jacket, hat, vest cardigan and jacket can be worn with the new uniform.

What shoes will be worn with the new uniform?

Students must wear runners with the new uniform. These must be predominantly white or black in colour.

Can I replace new uniform items with unbranded items from Kmart, Target, etc?

No, with the reduced cost of the uniform we are expecting families to use the official uniform items which are identified by the school logo.

Can my child wear leggings or long-sleeved undergarments under the uniform for warmth or sun protection?

Yes, however they must be from the official uniform list. These items have now been added to the wardrobe.

LABEL ALL SCHOOL UNIFORM ITEMS

It is important to label all school uniform items. The most commonly lost items are Hats and School Jumpers. These can be easily returned if they are correctly labelled. Please be aware that over time all labels fade and will need to be redone.

SUBWAY LUNCH ORDERS

The school will continue our partnership with Subway this year. This initiative provides students with an opportunity to receive a ‘lunch order’, that families have ordered and paid for online, prior to the day. Our next Subway Lunch Day will be Friday 10th March.

JAYDEN’S FIRST ANNIVERSARY

As Jayden’s first anniversary date falls on a day when Fr Albert is unavailable to say Mass, we will be remembering Jayden at our school Mass on 24th May. While this is a sad occasion we can take comfort in the knowledge that Jayden is at peace in God’s care. At this Mass we will remember the many gifts which Jayden’s life brought us, and we will pray for Bill, Vesna and Jake.

YEAR 7 2025 REMINDER

Year 5 parents should be aware that enrolments for Year 7 Catholic Secondary Schools are finalised in August of the student’s Grade 5 year. Parents are advised to be aware of this timeline when making arrangements for their child’s secondary school enrolment.

CHILD SAFETY REMINDERS

Below are some important Child Safety reminders:

Gate Closures

All external gates close at 8:50, ensuring all buildings in the school are secure and that only the students can access areas such as the toilets. We ask parents who walk their children to the classroom door to arrive a few minutes before the 8:50am starting bell so that gates can be closed promptly, and the school day can commence.

Student Absences

All schools have a legal responsibility to record and monitor student attendance daily. We ask parents to call the school on 8754 4300 and follow the prompts to report a student absence. Teachers mark their roll at the beginning of the day, therefore any student arriving after 8:50 must enter the school via the front office and check in.

Afternoon Pick Up

A reminder that the school day finishes at 3:15 for students, with teachers then attending scheduled meetings and completing planning and preparation tasks. Families who regularly run late for pick up, will be directed to the After School Care Program. Costs for the program can be located using the following link.
