UNIFORM & PHOTO COLLECTION

UNIFORM COLLECTION

We now have a permanent display space for our uniform collection located in the MERC at Main Campus.  Please contact Melanie Lynch at the College if you find one of the following at your house (or perhaps your family home) and you're willing to part with a piece of your school memorabilia.

Thanks to Jenny Cooke for sourcing and setting up this historical display.

CADET HAT: If anyone has a cadet beret or an officer’s hat which didn’t make it back to the stores when they left school, we would love to speak with you!

BOATER HAT: We also need a girl’s straw boater hat – not the bowler of the mid-1960’s.

CADET MEMORABILIA

The latest memorabilia came from Peter Harris, Class of 1964, who won Australian Cadet of the Year in 1964 and went on the “Nella Dan” ship to Antarctica for a month.

Peter joined the Cadets form 3 (Year 9) in 1960 aged 14. Peter achieved the ranks of Lance Corporal, Corporal, Sergeant, Company Sergeant Major and Cadet Under Officer - CUO (or Lieutenant).

In January 1964, Peter was dux of the Army CUO course at Swan Island Queenscliff and ultimately awarded the 1964 Australian Army Cadet of the year Award.

As a reward/prize, the Army sent Peter to the Macquarie Island base in sub-Antarctica in December of that year on the ice-breaker Nella Dan a part of the Australian Army Amphibious Detachment for the three-week relief expedition for that year.

The cadet corps was disbanded in govt schools in 1975.

We would like to receive photos taken in the 1950s and 60s to complete a permanent display of the school’s development.
