Acting Principal

Aaron Cox
Acting Principal
Farewell Mrs Cosentino
What a great send off Mrs Cosentino received from the school community. I know she was left stunned. Considering the time frames under which we worked, I thought it was first class. School Council renamed the hall in Mrs Cosentino’s honor, Parent Club presented a beautiful video of thanks, and the students created some really emotional and humorous presentations. Approximately 70 staff attended a dinner for Mrs Cosentino on her last day, which Rose Holden attended and gave an emotional impromptu speech.
All in all, it was the perfect send off for Mrs Cosentino.
Recognition of Excellence
As indicated in a Compass post to all parents, the school is focused on moving forward and continuing to provide the very best education for your children. The school consistently makes decisions to benefit all children, hence our number one school value is “We are here for the students”. Rosemary’s legacy will continue on through the teaching and learning at Kingswood and the values and vision. Staff are all highly invested in the direction of the school and this does not go unnoticed by the Department. On Friday, the 25th May, Kingswood was visited by the Regional Director Steven Gneil, the education department's critical friend, Dr. Mary Jean Gallagher, Simon Hamilton, the Deputy Regional Director, and our School Education Improvement Leader, Jenn McCrabb. This is a huge compliment for the department to take such notice of our school. It should also be further evidence that Kingswood is recognised as a school of excellence.
Mr Bennett - Acting Assistant Principal
I welcome Mr Bennett to the role of Acting Assistant Principal. He replaces me as I step into the Acting Principal role until a substantive Principal is selected. Mr Bennett has developed quickly as a leader and brings very good skills to the position to look after many of the technical issues that a school of our size requires. Mr Bennett’s organisational and interpersonal skills will hold him in good stead with our community. He has completed a number of leadership courses during his time with us at Kingswood and I am sure his leadership abilities will only grow exponentially in this role.
Workforce Planning
In preparation for the departure of a number of staff we have been extremely fortunate to have existing part time teachers willing to step into these vacancies to minimise any disruption. Mrs Hawkless will replace Miss Bennett (maternity leave) in Prep B from Term 2 week 10. As our reading recovery program is highly valued, we will be externally seeking a qualified person to fill this vacancy. Mrs Plowman (family leave) is returning to work with Mr Wall as Mrs Torcasio (maternity leave) departs. Mrs Plowman will join Mr Wall in the last week of Term 2. Mr Mirabella will take up parenting duties from the beginning of Term 3. Mrs Cooper 3S will take over Mr Mirabella’s class from the beginning of Term 3. Mrs Paguio will then step into Mrs Cramer’s 3S class two days a week so that there is no disruption to that class. Mrs Paguio will also continue in her role of Coding and Robotics teacher on the other days of her week. We are now in the process of trying to replace Mr Bennett (Physical Education teacher). Mr Bennett will continue in the role of sport coordinator but a new teacher will need to take all classes. Finally, we welcome Mrs Crebbin, a new external employee, who will take over Mrs Rossiter’s (maternity leave) class, 5S, until the end of the year. We welcome her to the Kingswood community. In all my years of education I have never seen so many necessary changes within a very short timeframe, but it really is a credit to our existing staff who have chosen to take on more work hours, despite their family commitments, to ensure a seamless transition for students and to maintain high quality teaching and learning throughout this transitional phase. We certainly could not have asked for a better outcome for the school.
School Council
I would like to welcome Helen Evans as the new School Council President for the remainder of 2018. Helen replaces Janelle Campbell as president because of a little-known technicality that prevented Janelle accepting the post as a current DET employee. Janelle was enthusiastic with ideas and suggestions in her role as president. We thank her for her time as president. Helen has stepped into these shoes and will help guide the school in choosing the next principal for Kingswood at a date in the not too distant future.
