RECONCILIATON WEEK

Thank you to Mr Bryce Ostini and Mrs Katrina Lane for supporting our students in developing the Bush Tucker Garden last week to celebrate Reconciliation Week. Families were invited to share this opportunity with students.  Students listened to stories about the significance of the plants. This area of our school not only looks amazing but has taken on a more significant meaning. We hope this area becomes a focal point for future reconciliation activities and that the students and their families have a sense of ownership and belonging as they watch the garden grow.

NUMERACY FOCUS AT MOLONG CENTRAL SCHOOL

Over the past 5 Years Molong Central School had a significant focus on literacy skills and this year, although we will continue to work hard developing student’s literacy skills numeracy will be a focal point for staff development. Working along side experts from the Department of Education, we have put together an amazing program which has an emphasis on responding to student data to improve learning. This compliments our school plan and should see our students make significant progress in specific aspects of numeracy. This will be presented at the P&C Meeting (which has been changed to Monday 7th June) and will include resources that parents may find useful to support their child in the area of numeracy.

ST JOHNS CADETS - PRESENTATION EVENING

Last week , I was invited to the St Johns Ambulance Cadet Presentation Night where several Molong Central Students were presented with awards for service. The evening highlighted the importance of this volunteer organisation designed to provide development and opportunities for people between the ages of 8 to 25 years of age. During the evening, I discussed with the students the value of St Johns Cadets in developing their personal skills in first aid as well as the significant friendships and personal connections the students had developed. Julie Dean gave an amazing address highlighting the activities and events the division attended, setting the scene for a wonderful evening. Phil Donato the member for Orange, was also in attendance to make presentations and highlighted the fact that Molong St John Ambulance Cadets was one of the largest divisions in NSW.

CHS Rugby League

Last week I was excited to hear that Bailey Peshka had been selected to play in the New South Wales Combined High Schools 15’s Rugby League team. Bailey has been working toward the goal of state representation and this year he has been acknowledged for his efforts. Bailey will play in the NSW All Schools Intrastate Series in St Marys later this month.

PSSA Knockout

Our girls and boys hockey teams were successful at defeating Calare Public School on Monday. The girls were dominant and had a convincing win scoring 13 goals. The boys game was closer where they scored 4 goals to Calare’s 1. Both teams will progress into the next round of the knockout. It was fabulous to see our students making the most of the exceptional turf facilities and look forward to hearing of their progress in this competition.
