Years 3 - 5

Over the past fortnight, students have begun working on their information reports, focusing on an endangered or critically endangered Australian animal. Exploring the list of endangered species sparked thoughtful discussions, with many students expressing surprise and concern that well-known animals such as Koalas and Tasmanian Devils are included. Students were also particularly shocked to learn that a large number of Australia’s endangered species are our native birds.

In Mathematics, we have been exploring the concept of length through a range of hands-on learning experiences. Students measured a variety of objects around the classroom, including their own height, and developed their skills in using appropriate units of measurement and conversion. They also completed an engaging investigation to determine which paper plane design travelled the greatest distance, combining measurement with prediction and problem-solving.

In Art, students have started creating their three-dimensional piece for the Red Gum Festival. They are currently constructing Australian animals using air-dry clay, which will come together to form a collaborative “Home Among the Gumtrees” display.
