Wellbeing

At our school we teach at least 40 minutes of Wellbeing Education weekly.

Every morning starts with a Welcome Circle at 8:50am, where we talk about the day ahead, and check in to ensure we are ready to learn and in the "Green Zone".

Through the week, we teach the "Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships" program. So far this term we have covered:

  • Establishing classroom rules, procedures and routines.
  • Emotional Literacy
  • Personal and Cultural Strengths

Being emotionally literate means that we can recognise our own emotions, and the emotions of others. It also means we know how to regulate our emotions so that we can feel well and behave in a socially acceptable manner.

Identifying our personal and cultural strengths, and those of others is an important life skill. Society often values talent over character. Just because someone is talented does not mean they have positive character strengths. We want our students to take notice of and celebrate their personal strengths, and recognise those they need to develop. We also want them to notice and celebrate the strength of character in other people.

These are conversations you can have with your child at home. As adults, we are their role models. Ask them what they see as their character strengths, or what they see as yours. The answers can, at times, surprise you.

Celebrate their character strengths - it is so valuable for their wellbeing.
