Science

Our year 12 science student took part in several excursions during term 1 to support and apply their learning of the VCE Study Design.

Environmental Science excursion to Skeleton Creek – Year 12 environmental science students took part in an excursion to nearby Skeleton Creek where they assessed the habitat for the growling grass frog, as a local example of a vulnerable species.  Students collected samples and data, which was analysed as part of their first SAC for Unit 3, Area of study 1 – Why is maintaining biodiversity worth a sustained effort?

Physics Year 12 excursion to Luna Park – During this excursion, students experienced and collected various physics data related to the study of motion while riding roller coasters.  From the data collected, students were able to compare calculated predictions to actual data, and deepen their understanding of motion physics for Unit 3, Area of study 1 – How do physicists explain motion in two dimensions?

Art

This term under the guidance of Arts Captain Siyana Balla, with the assistance of Hopper’s TV Leaders Maxie Francis and Tilly Manic students engaged in a Stick Note competition.

 Big idea. Tiny sticky notes.

Rat-pocalypse brings a swarm of hand-folded rats to life through stop motion, turning simple pieces of paper into a chaotic (and very entertaining) takeover. Each frame is carefully planned, showing strong effort and attention to detail as the rats move across the screen in time to the music .

This piece stood out because of its creativity, humour, and clear storytelling. William used timing and movement to effectively keep the audience engaged from start to finish.

Rat-pocalypse proves you don’t need fancy materials to make something memorable—just a great idea and the patience to bring it to life.
