Junior School Report

Ms Neisha MacRae and Mrs Stacey Porter (Assistant Principals - Junior School)

Welcome to our junior students for 2026!

It’s been a fantastic start to the year, with the energy and enthusiasm of our returning Year 8 and 9 students setting the tone, alongside our new Year 7 cohort embarking on their exciting journey at Hoppers Crossing Secondary College.

We’ve already seen a strong and positive beginning, with excellent attendance and students building meaningful connections with both their teachers and peers. It’s been wonderful to watch these relationships take shape, and we’re excited to see this momentum continue and grow throughout the year.

Year 7 Camp

On March 23rd–25th, our Year 7 students headed to Arrabri Lodge in East Warburton for a three-day camp filled with fun activities, games, and valuable time away with friends. Students embraced every opportunity to challenge themselves, with some even receiving awards for their bravery on the giant swing and flying fox. Despite a noticeable lack of sleep, their enthusiasm never wavered, and they made the most of every moment to build and strengthen relationships with their peers and teachers.

Year 7 & 9 NAPLAN

NAPLAN ran from Wednesday 11th to 23rd of March, and despite a rocky start with a nationwide system outage on the first day, the week was a success. We still managed to complete almost 2000 tests, which was a fantastic effort from both students and staff. For our Year 7 students, this was their first time completing NAPLAN at our school, while our Year 9 students undertook it for the final time. The data gathered helps measure student growth across key areas such as Numeracy, Reading, Writing, and Language Conventions. Despite the early challenges, our students approached each test with determination, giving their best effort and demonstrating a strong commitment to achieving their personal best. We look forward to seeing their results later this year.

Year 9 Morrisby

On February 23rd, our Year 9 students completed the Morrisby Profiling assessment, an online tool designed to help them gain a deeper understanding of their personal strengths, capabilities, and potential. The experience provided valuable insights to support students in making informed decisions about their future pathways, including subject selections, career options, and further education. This work will continue to be explored in their PEP classes, where students can reflect on their results and begin planning for their futures with greater confidence and clarity.

Year 8 Positive Coping & Resilience Workshops

On Monday 23rd and Thursday 26th of February, our Year 8 students participated in Positive Coping and Resilience workshops led by our school nurse. These sessions provided students with practical strategies to manage challenges, build resilience, and support their overall wellbeing. It was encouraging to see students actively engage in the activities and discussions, developing skills that will benefit them both in and out of the classroom.

Year 7 Welcome BBQ and Trivia

On February 5th, we welcomed our Year 7 students and their families to a fantastic Welcome BBQ and Trivia Afternoon. Families joined us at the school to meet teachers and get a glimpse into the learning and activities taking place in the classroom. Following the BBQ, students and their families took part in a fun and engaging school trivia session, with plenty of prizes up for grabs. It was a wonderful afternoon that strengthened connections and brought our school community together.
