Principal's Message

2026 School Theme - Coherence
Dear Westbreen PS Families,
End of Term 1!
Can you believe we have already reached the end of the term? As a community we have accomplished a great deal in the first 10 weeks of school! Some highlights have included:
- Foundation Welcome afternoon
- Year 5 and 6 Camp
- Interschool Sports
- Year 3 and 4 Werribee Zoo Excursion
- Year 1 and 2 litter clean up in our local creek
- Learning expos and gallery walks
- 3 way conferences
I have also really enjoyed the opportunity to get to meet so many of our parents and community members before and after school whilst on yard duty, at Family Time each Thursday as well as through the Parents and Friends Association and School Council
meetings.
Don't forget we have an early finish this Thursday for the end of term - we will finish school at 2:15pm. I wish you a very happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all next term!
Interschool Sports Softball District Champions
Last Friday, our Girls Softball team went to Oak Park Pools Oval to play St Francis Primary School. I am thrilled to announce that WPS won their match and are the District Champions with final score 14-11! Congratulations to the team on their excellent skills, co-operation and sportsmanship. They will move on the the Division Championships which will be held in Term 4.
Expos and Gallery Walks
Thanks to everyone who visited our learning expos over the past week or so. It was amazing to see our students showcase their creativity, presentation skills and passion for the topics they have been studying. Head over to the Community Page at the start of Term 2 for many more photos taken during these learning celebrations.
Harmony Week
Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together
Australians from different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging. The message of Harmony Week is everyone belongs.
These celebrations create opportunities for all of us to think, talk about and recognise how our differences make Australia a great place to live.
Did you know?
- More than half (51.5 per cent) of Australian residents were born overseas or have at least one parent who was.
- Since 1945, more than 7.6 million people have migrated to Australia.
- Nearly every single country from around the world was represented in Australia's population in 2020.
- More than 150 Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander languages are spoken in Australia Apart from English, the most common languages spoken in Australia are Mandarin, Arabic, Vietnamese, Cantonese and Punjabi.
- We identify with over 300 ancestries.
This information has been taken from ABS 2021 Census Data.
At Westbreen Primary School, we had an amazing day, wearing orange or cultural dress, creating 'Harmony Flags' as well as a range of fun activities at lunch time in the library. It was very well attended and so many of our students enjoyed playing games from around the world: Chess (originating from India), Tiddlywinks (England) and Lego (Denmark) and doing Harmony Day craft activities.
Special thanks to P&F to helping organise the day and decorating the library.
Yours in education,
Megan Ganter
