Year 7

Literary Forms in the Bible

Students explored the biblical account of Creation and salvation history, developing an understanding that the Bible is a collection of stories that reveals truths. Students examined the dominant Biblical narrative themes including Creation, Restoration and Redemption. Laws including ceremonial, moral and civil were investigated. 

The current Belief, Prayer and Practice is intended to deepen students' awareness of what it means to belong to the Catholic Community. Students are exploring personal and communal prayer and experience of various prayer forms such as meditation; centering; liturgical and devotional prayer. The Creed, The Ten Commandments and Catholic Social Teaching will also be studied.

Year 8 

Images of God

Students explored personal images of and questions about the Trinitarian nature and action of God. Through a study of Biblical images and through images of God represented in art, music, prayer and literature. Students examined Church teachings relating to the attributes of God, Trinity, and Jesus Christ as the icon of God. 

Reconciling with God

The reality of sin, evil, and the role of conscience, and the way in which Jesus responds to that reality in scripture and through the sacraments has been investigated. How we are then called to respond to his offer of mercy is unpacked. Jesus modelled mercy and commands that we too be merciful.

Year 9

Living Simply

The last unit focused on living simply with reference to living conditions to which all people should be able to reasonably aspire, as a matter of justice. Students explored Catholic social justice teachings and scripture accounts of the life and ministry of Jesus that support the choice to live a more simple, just, integrated and sustainable lifestyle.

The New Testament

Students are learning about a range of key passages from the New Testament and The Beatitudes. The oral tradition and literary styles evident in the New Testament are being explored and students are learning to interpret scripture through the four levels of meaning: Literal, Christological, Behavioural and Mystical. 

Year 10

Ethics for Life

Students are exploring a range of issues linked to reverence for life fundamentally The Dignity of The Human Person. Key scripture passages inform Catholic moral principles and students are applying the principles to various ethical issues.

Year 11 Studies in Catholic Thought

Students begin to explore how the Catholic understanding of the human person has shaped an understanding of the universe, creation, the human relationship with God, self and others, and how this led to early scientific thought. Themes of beauty, mystery and contemplation are debated.

Students explored how science and faith reveal truths. Personal and Biblical encounters with God are investigated. How a technological mindset, wealth and exploitation blind us to the mystery are discussed. 

Year 11 Studies in Religion 1

The SoR 1 class has explored Islam. The key events of Prophet Muhammad's life have been researched as well as the emergence of the Sunni and Shi’a branches of Islam. 

Year 11 Studies in Religion 2

The SoR 2 class have completed their religious traditions studies and are currently exploring Ancient Religious traditions, Celtic and Shintoism.  Religion in Australia pre 1945 will also be investigated.

Year 12 Studies in Catholic Thought

Students are exploring the Gospel demands of Christian living, and develop an understanding of the moral life as a part of the life of Catholics. Students will develop an insight to the Catholic approach to issues facing the human person, human society and the environment in a secular world. The challenges of evil and suffering in the world as well as the good will be investigated by students. 

Year 12 Studies in Religion 1

Students have completed their study of Aisha and her contribution to Islam. Students have also explored the Islamic Funeral practice and its significance to the individual and the community. 

Year 12 Studies in Religion 2

Year 12 SoR students have explored how peace is expressed through the sacred texts of both  Christianity and Islam. The cultivation of inner peace and its relation to world peace has also been investigated. The unit Religion and non religion has been completed with students gaining an insight on the expression and significance of the religious dimension in human history as well as the  global spread of religious traditions.
