Grade 5/6 Camp
On Wednesday the 18th of February our class went to a camp at Borambola Sporting Centre. Along the way, we stopped at Holbrooke to do an Ash Wednesday ceremony, eat some snacks and climb all over a huge submarine replica.
When we arrived at Borambola, we went to the dining room to devour some exquisite cuisine – beef burritos. But don’t worry, there were other meals for special dietary requirements. Before anything else could be done, we got introduced to our rooms and then it was onto our first activity, which was kayaking.
After we showed that we could control our kayak, we played games, including tag and kayak races. In the afternoon, we went to the pool for a swim. We had to pass a swimming test for the shallow end or the deep end and then we played a kickboard pizza game. It was fun! That evening we consumed another delightful meal; chicken schnitzels! We also participated in a mini-Olympics before going to bed.
We woke up Thursday to eat a massive breakfast. Our first activity on this huge day was group initiatives, followed by BMX riding! There were some different tracks and jumps to go on and tricks to do. It was amazing! For lunch we had Chicken Caesar Salad wraps. Following our chicken wrap lunches, we went onto what were certainly our messiest activities!
We began cleanly enough with some sponge wars, and then we had the opportunity to propel ourselves down a huge slip n’ slide. There was a competition to decide who had the best action on the way down. Apparently if you go down on your knees, it really hurts! At that moment it was time for the mud run! We ran through a pool of mud, then over a muddy hill, then through some muddy pits and then some muddy tunnels. Thank goodness there were showers at the end, due to all of the mud in our hair!
After our penne bolognaise and chocolate mousse dinner, it was time for the Borambola Show! Small groups were each given a different stall to set up in order to earn lots of money (milk bottle lids), which we could spend on the other group’s fun activities. There was a nail salon, a hair salon, mini golf, friendship bracelet making, basketball shots, face painting, fake tattoos and even magnetic darts. After visiting some stalls, Mr HB looked like a pretty princess! It was surprisingly exhilarating and hectic!
On Friday, the final day of camp, we did some indoor rock climbing. The tallest one was 7 metres, but we were very safe with our harnesses and ropes. Finally, it was time for some circus skills including sticks, spinning plates, ribbons and balance boards. After some Hawaiian and barbecue pizzas (vegetarian pizzas for some of us), it was time to board the bus home. Even though our 2 nights away was fantastic, it’s always nice to come home.
