Year 5 and 6

Students are learning about ‘Space Farming and foods for the future’. They are researching, examining and growing duckweed as a potential crop for space and for feeding future generations. Duckweed is an interesting plant as it doubles in size every 2 days and grows on water, therefore requiring very little resources. It is also highly nutritious and particularly high in protein.

Next term we hope to do an excursion to La Trobe University to see the research they are doing, and hopefully share some of our findings with them.

Duckweed grown in:  water + fertiliser and plain water

Stay tuned for our progress.
