Traffic Safety Update
As many in our community are aware, there was a recent traffic incident that occurred right outside — and partly on — the immediate surrounds of our school. In response, I’ve had two important meetings to explore possible safety improvements for this space.
The first was with Banyule Council’s Traffic Engineering team. They were generous with their time and knowledge, and I appreciated the opportunity to speak with them. However, I left that meeting feeling frustrated. The reality is that because there’s currently no significant data suggesting this is a recurring issue in that specific location, there are no viable interventions that can be implemented on Council-managed land at this stage. Understandable from their lens — but incredibly disappointing from mine, particularly given the safety of our school community.
Following that, I met with our local Sherbourne Ward Councillor, Alison Champion. Alison was supportive and understanding, and her key message echoed that of the engineers: any immediate action will likely need to take place on land managed by the school.
While this does mean the cost will fall to us, I want to reassure our community that we are more than willing to invest in safety upgrades — student safety is non-negotiable. That said, I’ll also be actively pursuing possible financial support through Council grants and advocacy, and it’s encouraging to now have Alison Champion in our corner to help push that case.
I’m currently in the process of sourcing quotes for potential safety measures such as bollards and railings along our school boundary. Once we have some firm numbers, we’ll be better placed to plan our next steps, including seeking out additional funding and deciding how the school might contribute.
I’ll continue to keep our community informed as this progresses.
Staff Car Park Reminder
A gentle reminder to all families and students that the staff car park is not to be used as a thoroughfare at any point during the school day — especially before and after school when vehicle movement is at its peak.
For the safety of all members of our community, we ask that everyone enters and exits the school via the designated pedestrian gates and pathways. Recently, a number of staff (myself included) have noticed individuals walking through the car park during busy times, which poses an unnecessary risk.
We appreciate your understanding and support in keeping Monty safe for everyone.
Sibling Enrolments for 2026
It might feel early, but 2026 will be here before we know it! If you have a child due to start at MPS in 2026, we encourage you to complete and return their enrolment form as soon as possible.
Enrolment forms can be accessed via the link below, filled out electronically, and returned to us via email at montmorency.ps@education.vic.gov.au.
Getting these in early helps with our planning and ensures a smooth start for all!
Thank You for Supporting Our Pie Drive!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported our recent Pie Drive fundraiser! Through your generous orders and enthusiasm, we’ve raised just under $2,000 for the school — an incredible result that reflects the strength of our community and its commitment to supporting MPS.
Pie Collection Details
Orders will be ready for collection on Monday, 2nd June, between 3:00 – 4:00pm at from the kitchen in The Discovery Centre.
Families using Camp Australia on the day are welcome to collect their goodies when picking up their child, even if it's outside the official collection window.
Thanks again for getting behind this much-loved (and tasty!) fundraiser.
Garden Area Upgrade Underway
You may have noticed the temporary fencing and some activity happening near the crushed rock area between our SAKG garden and the kitchen in The Discovery Centre — we’re excited to share that building works are officially underway to transform this space!
We’re working with one of the builders who helped create our beautiful new school entrance, and the project is progressing well. Once complete, this area will offer a more functional, inviting and purposeful space for our students and staff to enjoy.
A huge thank you to Claire Gilbert and Elisa Cleeve, who have been instrumental in bringing this project to life. Their passion and persistence have made this possible, and they've been wonderfully supported by several members of our school community — especially in shaping the design and assisting with the new garden beds that are going in.
We look forward to seeing the finished result soon and can’t wait to put the space to good use!
STEAM Afternoon
To celebrate Education Week, which took place recently, we’re inviting families to Monty for a special STEAM Afternoon on Thursday 5th June, from 3:30 – 4:30pm.
Classrooms will be open for an hour of interactive, hands-on activities showcasing Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students and families to explore, create, and collaborate in a fun and engaging setting.
Further information will come closer to the day, but now is a good time to include it in the diary!
