Year 8 Hockey Teams- State Finalists!

Our Year 8 Hockey teams have been incredibly successful this year, With the Boys and Girls teams both making it through to the State finals.

It has been fantastic to watch both teams training every lunchtime, dedicating themselves to improving their skills, teamwork and strategy.

The Girls finished the day in 5th place, showing so much improvement within their skills and game sense, pushing the other teams all the way.

The boys lost their first game in a close one to last years state finalists. The boys had their chances but ultimately couldn’t finish in the end, going down 2-1. They ended up finishing the day with a win and a draw to come 3rd.

Huge congratulations to both teams on a massively achievement- Not just finishing as the 3rd and 5th best Year 8 Hockey teams in the state, but on the way in which you engaged and showed passion during training and game days. We are so proud of your achievements.

Congratulations to our Hockey coaches; Ciro Fera, Chantal Moloney, Caitlyn Bayley and Laura Spence on an amazing result!

Girls Cricket Success

After a dominate display at Southern Metro finals, our Year 8 girls cricket team headed to Mirboo North to compete at State Quarter finals.

The girls loss the toss and were sent it to bat, after loosing a few early wickets the girls regrouped and faced the 20 overs, putting 45 runs on the board to chase. Tehya Thorn and Charlie Squires the stand outs with the bat.

Knowing the girls had to bowl and field well to have a chance, the opening over saw a terrific piece of fielding by Tylah Frankenberg and Ella Maynard to have Mirboo down 1 wicket early and the girls never looked back. They bowled Mirboo out for 28 and progressed through to the State Semi Final. Emily Groat the pick of the bowlers with 4/5 off 4 overs!

The state Semi- Final saw us face Emmanuel College, with our girls sent in to bat first. Emmanuel College had some outstanding bowlers and put us on the back foot early, Charlier Squires and Khaliah Turner dug in and finished with 9 runs each, bowling us out for 40.

Chasing, our bowlers gave us every chance taking a couple of early wickets, having Emmanuel on the ropes at 4/20. However, a good partnership saw them pass our score in the 11th over 5 wickets down. Finishing our run as the 3rd best Year 8 State Girls cricket team in the state.

Huge congratulations to all of the girls- Most of whom competed in State Netball finals early in the year- Making it to State twice is an incredible achievement.

Well done to our AFL Trainee Nathan Guinea for his outstanding Coaching and experience!
