A Prayer for the New School Year

Dear Lord,

As our students begin a new school year,

I pray that you will keep them in your care.

Send your Spirit to open their minds

to all that is true and beautiful and good

Help them to see the gifts and talents

you have given them and to use them well.

Help them to grow in knowledge and wisdom.

Help them to be kind to others

and lead others to be kind to them.

Give their teachers patience and understanding

and help them teach what is just and true.

Send your angels to guide and guard our

children and to keep them from all harm.

Open their young hearts to your presence

and enfold them in your peace and protection.

Hold them in the palm of your hand

and bring them home safely at day’s end.

Amen.

Dear Parents,

A very warm welcome to all our returning families and students, as well as to our new families and staff who are joining us for the first time this year! I hope that everyone has had a restful and enjoyable summer break, and that you are all feeling refreshed and ready for the year ahead.

We are excited to begin another wonderful year of learning, growth, and community here at St. Martha's. Our school continues to thrive thanks to the dedication of our staff, the support of our parents, our parish and most importantly, the energy and enthusiasm of our students. This year promises to be filled with many opportunities for our students to grow in faith, knowledge, and friendship.

We are delighted to welcome all new families to St Martha's. We understand that transitioning to a new school can be a big step, and the teachers and staff are here to support you.

Staff News

We welcome two new staff members to our school this year. Miss Bianca Banno joins us teaching Kinder Gold on Mondays and Tuesdays. We also welcome Mrs Vanessa Mesic-Lee as our Music and Drama teacher. I know you will join us in making them feel welcome.

During the holidays our Family Educator Mrs Elena Razzoli made the difficult decision to resign from St. Martha's. Elena has been a part of our community for 6 years and we thank her for the work she has done to strengthen our partnership with the parish and deepen the faith life of the St. Martha's community.

Opening School Mass

We will gather for a special opening Mass to pray for a successful and blessed school year. Our Opening School Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday 11th February at 11:40am. We hope you will be able to join us.

Welcome BBQ and Meet the Teacher

On Thursday 19th February we will have an opportunity for you to meet the teachers and enjoy a sausage sizzle on the playground to celebrate the start of the school year. Parents are invited to attend with their children to visit the classroom and share in activities and the sausage sizzle on the playground.

Meet the teacher in classrooms from 4:30 and BBQ from 5pm. Kindergarten will have two information sessions starting at 4:30 and 4:50.

Traffic Safety

Be Safe is one of our school expectations. The roads around our school are one of our biggest risks to the safety of students. Parents can assist us to keep all students safe by observing all traffic rules and keeping the safety of all firmly in mind. Parents are asked not to double park in Churchill Avenue and reminded not to turn into driveways to change direction. Children are often walking down the street and their safety is most important. If parents are picking a child up from Homebush Road gate and parking in the fifteen minute parking, they must get out of the car and collect their child from inside the gate. Sending children out to cars on a busy road is not safe. Parents must observe the speed limit around school and not exceed 40kph. We understand that parents may be running late and feel under pressure, but we would prefer someone to be late for school than anyone be injured. We hope that everyone in our community will be responsible, safe and respectful in all interactions, particularly on the roads around the school.
