Student & Alumni Spotlight
Student Spotlight: Mary-Lee Matthys
Congratulations to our very own Mary-Lee on her incredible performance at the National Clay Court Championships!
This talented young athlete represented her state with pride, competing against the top U12 players from across Australia. This tournament is highly competitive, featuring the top 32 players in the country. The fact that she earned a spot on this elite national stage is a true testament to her hard work, dedication, and God-given athletic abilities.
Mary-Lee has been invited to participate in the U13 Australian Championships on the Gold Coast this June. This prestigious event selects only the top 3 players from each state to represent their state and compete against the best from across Australia. We will be praying for you, Mary-Lee, and can't wait to hear about this amazing experience.
Thank you to Tennis Australia for the tournament photos.
Alumni Spotlight: Katherine Reed
Last week, we welcomed past student, Katherine Reed, who shared her inspiring story to our Year 7 and 8 students. Katherine suffered devastating injuries from a horse-riding accident when she was a teenager and is a paraplegic. She spoke with students about the hardships she has endured, her determination in recovery, and how she was able to represent Australia in wheelchair basketball.
After her accident, in 2009 Katherine returned to LCS to complete Year 11 and 12 as a mature age student. She shared with students how it is "all the invisible things that make living with spinal injury difficult." Katherine now visits schools, promoting wheelchair basketball and educating students about the Paralympics.
