McK CHESS CLUB

4th place at interschool chess zonal (Term 3) 

 

On Tuesday 5 August, the McKinnon Chess squad consisted of Aaron Todes (Year 11), Stanley Luo (Year 11), Khang (Kevin) Nguyen (Year 12), Alex Do (Year 11), Vibhan Jivanjee (Year 11), Lucas Huang (Year 10), Sivanesh Veerappan (Year 8) and Jonathan Huang (Year 10) travelled to Marcellin College to compete in the Chess Victoria Interschool chess zonal tournament. The McKinnon team showed great skills and composure throughout the day, and after more than four hours of chess, they managed a Team 4th place, a mere 0.5 point outside of the podium. Despite missing out on the top 3, the McKinnon Chess Team qualified for the State Final in Term 4.

 

Congratulations to all team members for their effort. The final individual results were:

  • 16th Kevin Nguyen: 4.5 pts

  • 24th Alex Do: 4 pts

McK CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2025

The most prestigious chess tournament at McKinnon started on Friday 25 July with the opening round. Twenty eight qualified players will battle over-the-board in after-school matches in B04 (McKinnon Rd Campus) during Term 3 in order to become the next McK Chess Champion. McK CHESS RATING/TITLE (Aug 2025 update)

Congratulations to Lucas Huang and Jonathan Huang (both in Year 10) for obtaining a Rook Class Player Title (& badge) after their recent performance at the interschool chess tournament and reaching 1250+ McK rating. Well done.
