Child Safety and Wellbeing

A Child Safe School
Ss Michael & John’s Primary School holds the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility. Central to the mission of our Catholic schools in Horsham –Ss Michael & John’s Primary School and St Brigid’s College – is an absolute commitment to fostering the dignity, self-esteem and integrity of children and young people and providing them with a safe, supportive and enriching environment to develop spiritually, physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially.
Equity is a state of fairness in which all children and young people can participate freely and equally in areas of life, regardless of their background, characteristics or beliefs. This means their safety is not dependent on their socio-economic, family or personal circumstances.
Our Diversity and Equity Policy specifically addresses providing a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment where equity is upheld and diverse needs are respected and supported, and outlines strategies and actions for the school including:
- actively nurturing and promote a culture where everyone is treated with respect and dignity
- ensuring students are not discriminated against (directly or indirectly) and that adjustments are made as required so that all students can participate in their education and school activities on the same basis as their peers
- acknowledging and responding to the diverse needs, identities, and strengths of all students
- encouraging empathy and fairness towards others
- challenging stereotypes that promote prejudicial and biased behaviours and practices
- contributing to positive learning, engagement, and wellbeing outcomes for all students
All of our policies, including Ss Michael & John’s Diversity and Equity Policy, can be found on the school website or available by request from the Front Office. Families are always welcome and encouraged to get in contact to discuss any concerns or provide feedback regarding matters with our schools, child safe practices, and student wellbeing.
