This week we had our first student council meeting. This was attended by one of our school captains and our school house captains, who are all in the transition section of the school. These students met in the conference room with Sam, Christine and I. The meeting had an agenda on the screen for students to follow and Riley was our Chair Person and Amira took the minutes on the laptop. The group discussed the roles of the school and house captains and thought about how they could model positive behaviour to all other students in the classroom, playground and community and what this would look like. We also discussed the official opening of our new buildings which will happen in August and the role that our student leaders will play on this day. We are currently working on updating our Croydon SDS Acknowledgement of Country and transition students have had input into the new wording.
This week we have 2 groups of transition students attending Blackwood Camp. The first group will travel up on Monday returning on Wednesday. I am looking forward to joining with the second group who will travel up on Wednesday returning on Friday.
During the camp, students will have the opportunity to participate in a range of exciting activities including bush cooking, team games, gold panning, archery, bush hut building and low and high ropes course. We look forward to hearing some great stories of fun and adventure from students and staff attending the camp I'm sure there will be some photos to share in the next newsletter!
It's that time of year again when there are incidences of 'Flu, Covid and other illnesses in our community. Please keep your child home if they are unwell. We know this is challenging for families but it helps to ensure illnesses don't spread to other students and staff. Currently we are experiencing high levels of staff illness which means that our students are supported by less familiar casual staff which can be unsettling for some students. Please help us keep our Croydon SDS community safe and well!
