First Aid in Schools Program for Students
This year Brighton Primary School is continuing to teach first aid through the First Aid in Schools Program - a free program offered to students in Victorian schools.
Through the program, students have the opportunity to learn essential first aid knowledge in a fun, engaging, and age-appropriate way from Prep to Grade 6.
Learning Skills for Life
As part of this free program, students participate in activities that introduce them to basic first aid concepts, emergency response skills, and ways to help others safely. The sessions are designed to build confidence and encourage students to think calmly and responsibly in everyday situations.
Students learn important skills such as:
- Recognising when someone may need help
- Understanding how and when to call for emergency assistance
- Basic first aid responses for common injuries
- The importance of staying calm in an emergency
- Looking after their own health and wellbeing

First aid is a valuable life skill that students can carry with them into adulthood. Early exposure to first aid education helps create safer schools, homes, and communities by empowering young people with the knowledge and confidence to respond appropriately when someone requires assistance.
