Welcome back! We hope you had a relaxing break and are ready for our final term of Grade Three. We have a busy term ahead, including our Grade Three camp and lots of exciting learning.
Reading
In Reading, we will begin the term by exploring our class novel, Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. Through this text, students will continue to develop their reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension skills while discussing character development and themes of difference, inclusion, belonging and care.
Towards the end of the term, we will turn our attention to non-fiction texts, using David Attenborough's Life in Colour documentaries as an engaging way to build students' knowledge about the natural world. Students will develop their ability to take effective notes, identify important information and record key ideas from non-fiction texts.
Writing
In Writing, students will continue to develop their skills in writing information reports. They will learn how to organise factual information clearly and effectively, while developing their vocabulary and sentence structure to communicate their knowledge to the reader.
We will also continue to build students' writing skills through The Writing Revolution program, with a focus on strengthening sentence construction and helping students to become more confident and precise writers.
Numeracy
Our daily Mathematics routine will continue through our Explicit Mathematics Program (EMP), providing students with regular opportunities to review, practise and build on their mathematical knowledge.
This term, our learning will include fractions, area, mass and solving word problems. Students will continue to develop their number fluency, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on applying their knowledge to a range of different situations.
Units of Work:
In Geography, students will start the term learning about Australian vegetation, developing their understanding of the different vegetation types found across Australia and how these relate to our environment and Australian Indigenous culture.
In History, we will explore First Nations history and significant events, including the 1967 Referendum, the National Apology and National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day. Students will also learn about First Nations Peoples and early contact.
Grade 3 Camp
Camp is finally here! Remember that students will meet at school at approximately 9:00am on Thursday, 5 November, before travelling by bus to Campaspe Downs. Students will return to school at approximately 2:40pm on Friday, 6 November.
There is a strict luggage limit of ONE labelled luggage piece per camper and ONE small backpack or bag for the bus. Your child MUST be able to lift and carry all of their own belongings. Adults will not be able to carry students' luggage as they will also be carrying other camp items.
Homework
Students are expected to read for 20 minutes, 5 times per week. We will also continue to encourage students to use Essential Assessment for additional Maths practice.
We are looking forward to a great final term with our Grade Three students!
With kindness,
The 2026 Grade 3 Team
Tess, Caity, Holly & Samantha
