Principal's Message

Term 4 Week 2 16 October 2026
From the Principal
Hi Everyone,
I can’t get my regular video to you today because I am on the Year 5 Camp and what a brilliant few days we have had together! The opportunities that these children have had, have been amazing and they have handled them so well. I have watched them learn and expand their expertise in 3 days; it is such a credit to them! Tyalgum is truly a special place. Thank you so much to our Year 5 Team for putting together and providing such an amazing experience for our children - Ms Georgia Perkins (chief organiser), Mr Brett Perrier, Ms Annabella Eaton, Ms Sheree Hoac, Ms Sequoya Miller, Mr Thomas Corbett and Ms Sharyn Pinkerton. Parents, you should be so proud of your children!
Congratulations to our P-3 Merit Certificate Recipients, we are very proud of you!
The Year 2 Choir did the most beautiful job on assembly this week. The song they sang was so moving. Congratulations to them and Mrs Huxley! Next week on Monday, it is the 4-6 Merit Assembly, and the Senior Band will be performing.
Music Fest was this week, and I was so proud to hear that our children did so well! Congratulations to our Strings and Band Instrumental Music groups. Not only did they play beautifully but they were just so happy when they returned and seemed to have such a great time. Thank you to Mrs Trudy Weekes and Mr James Kukulies for leading them to make such inspirational music! Many of these students will get to go and see the Queensland Symphony Orchestra next Friday, which will be a great reward for their hard work.
In more music news, a few of our students have been selected to perform in the Metro Choral Honours Program next week. Congratulations to them and Mrs Annemarie Kirsten, I can’t wait to hear all about it.
Congratulations to our Debating Teams who competed this week! I couldn’t get to see them due to camp but Mr Tait tells me they made him feel very proud - top work Debaters!
Coming up next Friday is Arbor Day and myself, Mr Bytschewsky, our groundsman and the Green Team are going to plant 50 free plants from the Brisbane City Council - yippee!! I am really looking forward to it!
Please mark on your calendars that our Celebrations of Learning are on Friday, Week 9, the 4th December. Please see the timetable below.

World Teachers Day is coming up on Friday 30th October. Why not consider sending your child’s teacher an email on Friday the 30th, thanking them for what they do for your child. This year’s theme is, Shine a Light on Teachers. Our Student Council is having a fundraiser on that day too. Children can dress as a teacher and bring a gold coin donation, which is going to the Reading Out of Poverty, Children’s Literacy charity. A very fitting charity, as all children reading and getting an education is something every teacher is passionate about.
The P&C Spring Fair is getting so close - please help out by donating things or time or both pretty please! Saturday the 7th November is only 3 weeks away!!!
I will finish with a staffing update. Sadly, Mrs Robynne MacLachlan has had to take leave for the remainder of the year and we wish her all the very best! Ms Liegh Chadwick will teach P/1E for the rest of the term and we are very grateful to her. This also means Mrs Simone Fitzgerald is teaching 2D full-time. The children have settled in very well to these arrangements.
Have a wonderful weekend and great week ahead.

PS Another reminder to not sit in your cars and leave them running at the end of the school day, while you wait to pick up your children. Car fumes are terrible for everyone around them. Last week, someone left their car running and walked in to pick up their child. This is illegal and dangerous. Please, let’s work together to make home time safe for everyone.
