Maths Talent Quest

Well done to our students who participated in this year's Maths Talent Quest.

The MTQ is a competition that celebrates creative and investigative approaches to mathematics. Each of these young mathematicians produced a high-quality project of their own design to explore a real-world context and showcase their problem-solving skills, creativity, and mathematical thinking beyond the classroom.

Congratulations to:

Will P, Will N, and Kyriakos P in Year 7 for their submission "The 2.0-Second Miracle: The Mathematics of the F1 Pit Stop", analysing the most efficient strategy for F1 drivers to use their pit stops.
Lewis M in Year 9 for his submission "Stock analysis and market capitalisation", using sophisticated data analysis and modelling to describe stock portfolios for several tech companies.
Lucas V in Year 9 for his submission "How many people will be on this planet?", using linear and quadratic modelling techniques to predict the global population in 2076.
Chloe C in Year 10 for her submission "How does the ratio of white and brown sugar in a chocolate chip cookie affect its height and diameter after baking?" using data collected in her own kitchen to improve and perfect a baking recipe.
Sophia H in Year 10 for her submission "Inflatable Rescue Boat Racing: Mathematical Investigation" who worked with the Mentone Lifesaving Club's IRB team to compare and analyse how the volume of fuel impacted acceleration.
Scarlett K in Year 10 for her submission "How does orbital height affect the speed of a satellite?" using calculus to investigate the mechanics of gravity and orbital velocity.

And special congratulations to:

Parshan N in Year 10 whose submission "Pathfinding Algorithms" was one of only 18 outstanding investigations that have been selected to represent Victoria in the National Maths Talent Quest!

The final judging of the National MTQ is still some time away, so best of luck to Parshan in that arena. Certificates of achievement will be awarded to all of our participants in the near future.

Congratulations again to all of our participants this year. I cannot wait to see where your curiosity takes you next!
