Western Port Secondary College has invested heavily in coaching. We aim to provide one-on-one support to teachers to ensure they consistently deliver lessons that are challenging and engaging. We set the conditions for optimal learning and expect all our students to experience educational success. 

As our wonderful Year 7 students continue to settle into their secondary school routines, it is timely to provide additional support in the form of classroom coaching for Year 7 teachers.  Coaching involves teachers being observed and receiving feedback with the purpose of providing the best learning environment for students to learn and thrive. During Term 3, English and Mathematics classroom are actively participating and, as we approach Term 4, Humanities and Science classrooms will also benefit.

The focus of coaching Year 7 teachers is to: 

1. Maintain calm classrooms, set inspiring and challenging learning tasks and connect students to their learning.

2. Lower variance in the lesson pace and structure, maximise explicit and interactive teaching, check for understanding and develop student learning behaviours.

Coaching will enhance our students' positive learning experiences as they begin their exciting transition into Year 8.

Term 3 has been another busy and rewarding term, with many exciting opportunities for our students both within and beyond the classroom.

Radio Western Port Recognition

Earlier this term, Mr. Yuan and Mr. Nolan attended the LGPro AFE Awards for Excellence in 2026 in Melbourne, representing Radio Western Port. We are proud to announce that Radio Western Port was named a finalist in the Community Partnerships category, recognising the strong collaboration between local organisations and the wider community. This achievement reflects the dedication of everyone involved and highlights the positive impact community partnerships can have on young people.

Sport Success: Year 8 Boys Badminton

Our Year 8 Boys Badminton Team travelled to the new Panthers Stadium in Clyde North to compete in the Southern Metropolitan Region (SMR) Championships, aiming to defend their regional title.

The boys competed with determination and resilience throughout the day, finishing third in their pool. One of the highlights was their courageous performance against Westall Secondary College, a team that has been a regular regional finalist. While the results did not fall our way, the students demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance. We are extremely proud of their efforts and the way they represented the College.

Senior Formal 2026

The Senior Formal, held on 13 August, was a tremendous success. We welcomed a record attendance of more than 110 students and staff, making it one of the largest senior social events in recent years.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the evening, particularly the popular photo booth and the unlimited soft-drink package, which created a fun and relaxed atmosphere. The event was a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate with friends and create lasting memories.

A special thank you goes to WBY, WHI, LCK, MCD, HAT and ROY for their assistance with setting up the venue and welcoming students throughout the evening. Their support helped ensure the event ran smoothly and safely.

Upcoming: Radio Western Port Session

We are looking forward to the next Radio Western Port session, which will involve our CARE Captains. Students will have the opportunity to continue developing their communication, leadership, and community engagement skills through this valuable partnership.

Legally Blonde Production

Congratulations to all students involved in the school's production of Legally Blonde. Our CARE Captains have been actively supporting various aspects of the production, while Mr Yuan has enjoyed being part of the backstage team and assisting students with their final preparations. The dedication and talent displayed by our students have been truly impressive.

Year 7 & 8 Disco

Planning is well underway for the upcoming Year 7 and Year 8 Disco. Interest has been exceptionally strong, with more than 120 students responding to the survey and over 100 students already signed up to attend. We are looking forward to a fantastic evening that will provide students with another opportunity to connect with peers and strengthen year-level relationships.

Looking Ahead: Year 10 Formal

We are also excited about the upcoming Year 10 Formal, which will provide students with the opportunity to celebrate their first year in the Senior School. The event will allow students to strengthen friendships, create positive memories, and acknowledge the achievements and experiences they have shared throughout the year.

As we move towards the end of Term 3, thank you to all students, staff and families for your ongoing support. We look forward to finishing the term strongly and continuing to celebrate the many achievements of our school community.

Marrung: Walking together in Term 3

Term 3 has been another significant and rewarding term for the WPSC Marrung Team, with a strong focus on student leadership, community partnerships and strengthening connections across our region.

A major highlight was hosting and chairing the Southern Peninsula Network Marrung Community of Practice, bringing together representatives from 15 primary and secondary schools. The gathering provided an important opportunity for schools to collaborate, share successful practices and strengthen collective efforts to improve attendance  outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across the Southern Peninsula. WPSC was proud to lead this conversation and support the continued growth of culturally responsive practices throughout the network.

Our students have also embraced a range of valuable learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Several students attended the Willum Warrain Youth Summit, where they connected with other young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, explored culture and identity, and developed their confidence as future leaders within their communities.

Students also participated in the Koorie Emerging Leaders in Schools (KELiS) program at Frankston High School, engaging in workshops and activities designed to strengthen leadership skills, cultural pride and student voice. These experiences continue to empower our young people to step into leadership roles and make meaningful contributions within our school community.

The Western Port Mob has continued to meet regularly throughout the term, providing a welcoming and supportive space where students can connect, yarn, learn and celebrate culture together. The group remains a vital part of our commitment to creating a culturally safe and inclusive environment for all students.

Across the term:

• Students participated in a range of excursions and leadership opportunities that strengthened cultural identity, connection and belonging.

• Connections with community organisations, neighbouring schools and cultural partners have continued to grow, creating new opportunities for collaboration and learning, particularly in Term 4

• Staff have continued to build their understanding and capability through ongoing engagement with Marrung priorities and culturally responsive practices.

   

This term has reinforced the power of working together. Through leadership, collaboration and strong community partnerships, our students and staff continue to create meaningful opportunities to celebrate culture, build understanding and ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives remain an integral part of everyday learning at Western Port Secondary College.
