Legally Blonde: The Musical

Congratulations to all the students involved in our recent college production of Legally Blonde: The Musical. Months of hard work culminated in three fantastic performances that entertained audiences and showcased the extraordinary talent within our school community.

A special thank you to our student choreographers, Addi Proud, Ellie Jackson and Hayley Greensmith, who took on the challenge of creating and teaching choreography to the ensemble. We would also like to acknowledge Rocky Puglisi, who assisted with directing many of the scenes and worked closely with the actors to bring out their best performances. The creativity and leadership demonstrated by these students played a significant role in bringing the show to life.

Thank you to our amazing cast of over 50 students, and to our backstage crew (Sara Savage and Jett Nastasi) and technical crew (Phoenix Brockway - lighting and Charli Edwards – sound), whose dedication behind the scenes was just as important as everything that happened onstage. Special thanks to Amy Agius, Nicole Simmonds and Dave Oppedisano for their invaluable support and care of our students, as well as the creativity and skill they brought to the production. 

Thank you also to our Front of House manager, Chelse Luke, and kiosk team Tammie Johnstone and Abbie Fairclough who worked tirelessly to create a fantastic welcoming vibe for the audiences of our sold-out shows. We are incredibly proud of what our students achieved and of the teamwork, resilience and enthusiasm they demonstrated throughout the process.

What audiences often do not see is the camaraderie and friendship that develop throughout the rehearsal process. With a cast comprising of students from Years 7 to 12, the production provided a wonderful opportunity for friendships to grow across year levels.

A final reflection came from a seven-year-old audience member who watched the show: “I will remember it for the rest of my life....”

“If you asked me to describe Legally Blonde, I probably couldn’t. It was such an experience that you would have to live it to truly understand it. Playing Elle Woods was a dream for me. I was so excited to portray her, and I loved every minute.

The best part of it all was performing. Every night offered something different. Whether it was a wig falling off or a missed cue, something always made each performance even more memorable than the last. I remember the final show, just before the bows, when everyone felt so connected. It was as though we were all experiencing the same bittersweet feeling because we had grown together.

I’m so grateful for this experience. Thank you to everyone who made it possible!”

“Term 3 was full of excitement with our production of Legally Blonde. After many weeks of rehearsals, learning choreography, practising songs and working together as a cast and crew, we finally had the opportunity to perform onstage.

From the Delta Nu girls to the courtroom scenes, the production was filled with funny and memorable moments—and lots of pink! It was amazing to see everyone’s hard work come together, and we are so proud of everything we achieved as a team.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the production possible. We couldn’t have done it without you!”

“Legally Blonde was truly an experience I will never forget. It was the most enjoyable experience I have had during my school years. I loved being able to work with all the cast and crew members. Everyone was so kind and always willing to help one another.

Legally Blonde is definitely a chaotic musical, but that only made it better! Even the mistakes we made onstage added to the show’s personality and made each performance unique. There could not have been a better team to work with.

I was never overly confident about my singing, but everyone lifted me up and showed me that I was capable. That is the true spirit of theatre.

Legally Blonde was an experience I will never forget. It was my first musical, and I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world. Everyone involved was so supportive and so much fun to work with. I am incredibly thankful that I had the opportunity to choreograph dances, teach them and see them performed on stage.

The energy, commitment and support backstage were truly beautiful. I made new friends and connected with people I might never otherwise have met. This experience was so much fun, and I enjoyed every second!

August Art Attack

Our Year 9 and 10 Art students were proud to participate in the annual August Art Attack exhibition, held at the Crib Point Community House. Students began developing and refining their artworks from Term 2, working throughout the year to prepare pieces for exhibition alongside artists from the local community.

It was wonderful to see our students’ creativity and hard work recognized, with Sara receiving a Special Mention from the judges. Even more exciting, two student artworks were sold during the exhibition! Congratulations to all of our students who participated and proudly represented WPSC.

Model UN experience

On Friday the 14th of August, 12 Western Port students from year levels 8 through to 11; Phoenix, Jordan, Flynn, Guy, Mary-Grace, Harper, Isabel, Elizabeth, Murphy, Ruby, Anzac and Kilmeny travelled to Dromana Secondary College to participate in the region’s Model United Nations. 

The Model UN, is a meeting of various invited schools in the area, who form teams that will represent different countries who are present in the United Nations, these teams then debate and present their opinions as these countries to their fellow delegates to come to agreements on the topic of the meeting, which was Refugees and Asylum Seekers.

Our students represented Poland, Viet Nam and Brazil, 3 of the 24 countries present and did a wonderful job amongst the larger and more experienced schools.

Part of the day included creating amendments to the draft resolution which might be selected to be posed to the entire committee, then defended and voted upon.

Of the 24 groups present representing 24 countries, only 8 amendments were selected to be voted upon and debated. 2 of these amendments were created by Western Port students, groups Poland and Brazil, which demonstrates the quality of their work and how seriously all students took this event.

All three of our teams participated wonderfully in all aspects of the day from the opening statements, through the caucus debate sessions into the amendment voting processes.

All three of our groups also got a chance to speak in front of the other delegates and debate their representative country’s opinion on the topic of asylum seekers.

This was a great honor for our students to participate in, and we hope to participate next year as it is an excellent opportunity for our students to learn, grow and collaborate with students from other schools and year levels.

House Colour Comp and Aerobics Success

House Colour Competition: Our House Colour Competitions have been a fantastic success throughout the year! Every couple of weeks, students have the opportunity to represent their house by competing in a variety of activities, including two competitive sports and one fun novelty event.

The competitions have created plenty of friendly rivalry, school spirit, and participation, with both students and staff enthusiastically getting involved. Sports that we have had so far are volleyball, netball, pickleball, basketball, and futsal.

Aerobics: What an incredible first year it has been for our Aerobics team! In their debut season representing the school, our talented students have achieved outstanding success, finishing 2nd at the State Championships in June and earning a qualification for the National Championships held in Queensland. 

While we won't be attending Nationals this year, we're extremely proud of everything the team has accomplished and are already looking ahead to an even bigger and better season next year. Our final competition for 2026 was held on Saturday 15th August in Melbourne and the team placed 1st. We are so proud of what the team has achieved in their first year ever of aerobics! Keep an eye out late term 3 for information about 2027 Aerobics team trials. We encourage all interested students to get involved as we continue to grow this exciting program.

Whole School Mathematics Competition

The Mathematics Competition continued to be a highlight of the academic calendar this term, with strong participation and enthusiasm from students across the College.

A total of 68 students took part in the Year Level Mathematics Competitions, demonstrating a willingness to challenge themselves, apply their mathematical thinking, and engage in problem-solving beyond the classroom. It was pleasing to see students embrace the opportunity to extend their skills and compete alongside their peers.

Following the completion of the year-level rounds, the highest-performing students progressed to the Mathematics Grand Final. This year, 38 students qualified for the Grand Final, an achievement that reflects a high level of mathematical ability, perseverance, and commitment to excellence.

At the recent Whole School Assembly, we recognised and celebrated the outstanding efforts of our competitors. Certificates were awarded to the top three students at each year level, as well as the top three overall performers in the Mathematics Grand Final.

Congratulations to all students who participated in the competition, and especially to those who received awards. Your dedication, resilience, and passion for mathematics are to be commended. We look forward to seeing even more students get involved in future mathematics enrichment opportunities.

Wear It Purple Day

Students and staff celebrated Wear It Purple Day at our school on Friday, 28 August. On the day, our school community demonstrated all four of our Core Values: Community, Achievement, Respect and Engagement.

The goal of Wear It Purple Day is to encourage a culture of acceptance and tolerance while raising awareness of issues relevant to the LGBTQIA+ community. Celebrating Wear It Purple Day supports a variety of school frameworks and, by promoting the day as a whole-school collaborative effort, our school sends a clear message to students and the local community: we accept students for who they are and believe that every student should feel a sense of belonging in our community.

Wear It Purple also seeks to support and build emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing.

The celebrations were student-led, with support from our dedicated school staff.

What We Did

A well-organised and respectful group of Year 10 students baked and decorated approximately 70 cupcakes for the day. These were given as prizes to our young people.

At lunchtime, our Care Captains ran a Question-and-Answer activity, which provided an opportunity for students to participate in fun activities and access further resources. The questions focused on being respectful and inclusive of diversity.

After answering a question, students could choose from a range of activities and prizes, including:

• Having a cupcake.

• Wearing a badge designed and made by our students.

• Having their nails polished.

• Guessing the correct number of lollies in the lolly jar.

It was wonderful to see our students demonstrating our Core Values through their leadership, creativity, respect and engagement throughout the celebrations.
