Principal Update

Sarah Rose, Principal

Welcome back to school for term 4. I hope everyone is refreshed and back in routine ready to embark on a positive final term of schooling for the year.

Last week saw the school welcome the review panel associated with the DET School Review – a process all schools go through every four years.  These reviews inform the development of the schools’ 4-year strategic plan and assess compliance with the Curriculum Student Learning Minimum Standard.  Reviews comprise two components - a pre-review self-evaluation and a review facilitated by an independent school reviewer and a panel, the latter which we are now participating in.  An element of the review process is focus groups with staff, students and parents and carers.  All parents and carers can shortly expect to receive an invitation to join a focus group with the review panel – please keep an eye out for this and register your interest in participating as we welcome all input to the review process to support our future planning.

With our Year 12 students attending their final classes tomorrow, we look forward to their Celebration Day this coming Monday which will entail breakfast in town, followed by the cohort participating in their final walk to school, passing local shops and primary schools – feel free to give them a wave if you see them.  We will also have the Graduation Assembly which is a wonderful occasion for the whole school with families of our year 12s in attendance.  To bookend next week, our Year 10 students will showcase their business planning efforts by running their activity or stall for Marketplace Day on Friday.  Further communication about the day and how students can purchase tokens will be sent via Compass.

In addition to the student achievements outlined later in this edition that occurred over the term break, I would like to highlight and congratulate the team of students that represented GSC at the Western Metropolitan Region Athletics last week. Two of our Year 10 students progress to the next level of competition were Isabelle K finishing 1st in the 1500m and 2nd in the 3000m track events and Ruby W finishing 1st in the 100m sprint and 2nd in the long jump.  Absolutely wonderful achievements, congratulations Isabelle and Ruby.

Looking ahead, please note the Melbourne Cup public holiday that will be observed by the school on Tuesday 4th November.  The day before Melbourne Cup Day, Monday 3rd November will be a normal school day.

The remainder of the term is set to be a busy one with lots of learning and growth opportunities and then a shift to transition to 2026 classes via the Step Up program. There will no doubt be lots of communication to families about events and activities, so please try to keep across the detail and action items where necessary, as this does significantly support the school’s smooth operation.

Kind Regards,

Sarah Rose
