Wellbeing and Student Engagement Capabilities

As part of our School Review we will be ensuring that St John's is promoting access to a quality education, connectedness, inclusivity and a focus on the holistic wellbeing of students. This will be achieved through the following Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic School Capabilities.

Equitable access, participation and growth

MACS is dedicated to ensuring that every student has access to quality education across the curriculum, with a consistent focus on learning growth. Teachers understand and address individual learning needs through a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) informed by student data. MACS schools create a productive and engaging learning environment, which improves student motivation.

Fostering school connectedness

MACS schools serve as a place where students learn how to respectfully interact with peers, adults and the community. A strong emphasis is placed on partnering with families to ensure every student feels connected, safe and valued at school. MACS schools design strategies to engage students in school life, which promotes learning and attendance, addresses personal and external barriers, and maintains clear, supportive pathways for families facing challenges in ensuring their children attend school.

Promoting mental health and wellbeing

Through Vision for Engagement, MACS acknowledges that wellbeing and academic growth are interconnected. MACS schools focus on the holistic wellbeing of students by creating nurturing environments where students feel valued, supported and empowered to thrive. Schools implement whole-school social and emotional learning programs that enhance self-awareness and resilience and foster positive, inclusive environments.
