Welcome to Term 2
Welcome back everyone to our new term together!
As we begin, we reflect on the beautiful story of the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13–35). Two disciples were walking along, feeling sad and confused after Jesus had died. As they travelled, Jesus came and walked beside them, but they didn’t recognise him at first. It was only later, when they shared a meal and Jesus broke the bread, that their eyes were opened and they realised He was alive! Their sadness turned into joy, and they quickly ran to share the Good News.
This story reminds us that Jesus is always with us and especially when we are unsure, worried or trying to understand things in our lives.
Wonderings for us:
I wonder when I might notice Jesus walking with me this term?
I wonder how hope can grow in my heart like it did for the disciples?
I wonder how I can help others feel joy and belonging at school?
As we begin this term, may we walk together with open hearts, ready to see signs of hope, love and new life around us.
The Last Supper and The Washing of the Feet
I would like to share some photos of the students who re enacted these very important Easter. Last term, we were blessed to witness our students beautifully re-enact two very important Easter celebrations which were The Last Supper and The Washing of the Feet.
Through these experiences, the students reflected on the great sacrifice Jesus made and came to understand Jesus as a servant leader and one who humbly cared for and served his disciples. Jesus showed his love for all people through humility, teaching his disciples in a powerful way that true leadership is found in serving others.
Our students made meaningful and thoughtful connections as they participated in these re-enactments with their classes. It was a special way to bring the Easter story to life and deepen their understanding of Jesus’ message.
A sincere thank you to the parents who supported and participated in these celebrations. Your presence helped make these moments even more special for the students.
Good Friday - The Garden of Gethsemane and the Crucifixion
At the conclusion of the Year 5 and 6 performance, a profound silence settled over the audience as students, staff, and parents were left deep in reflection. Gradually, applause began—an authentic response to the powerful and moving portrayal of the Garden of Gethsemane. The students sensitively captured the fear and sorrow experienced by Jesus in prayer, as well as the disciples’ lack of understanding.
The performance went on to depict the moment of Jesus’ arrest, as described in Scripture, leading into the crucifixion with reverence and care. Presented to our wider community, the production was deeply moving, with two performances staged on either side of the Mary MacKillop space. Reflective music further enhanced the prayerful and contemplative atmosphere.
This was a remarkable achievement by our Year 6 students, whose dedication and commitment were evident throughout. We also acknowledge the guidance and support of our Performing Arts teacher, Amanda Hill, in bringing this meaningful production to life.
