Year 2 Prayers in Pyjamas

On Tuesday night, it was wonderful to welcome our Year 2 students and their families back to school for our Prayers in Pyjamas evening. It was a lovely opportunity to come together, share faith and celebrate the learning our students have been exploring. The Year 2 students have been learning about the Gospel story of the Good Samaritan, and through meditation, craft, sequencing and meaningful discussion, they proudly shared their learning with their families. We look forward to welcoming our wonderful Year 2 students and their families to Mass this Saturday at 5:30pm with Fr Trac.

Thank you to the wonderful year 2 teachers, Miss Caroline Farrelly and Mrs Fiona Byrne for all their work behind the scenes and in the classroom with our Year 2 students.

Assumption of Mary

Gallery Image

This Friday, 14th of August at 1pm, we warmly invite our St Finbar’s community to join our students for our Whole School Mass celebrating the Assumption of Mary that occurs each year on Saturday 15th of August.

This week, many classes have been exploring the meaning of the Assumption and reflecting on Mary’s life and faith. Take a look at the wonderful flower craft currently on display and created last term by 3D. Students decorated each flower petal with adjectives that describe Mary from their perspective.

Gospel Reflection - Saturday 15th of August

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Gospel Reading

Luke 1:39-56

Mary greets Elizabeth and sings God's praise.

Family Connection

The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary reminds us of Mary’s deep faith and trust in God. Mary is a wonderful model for us because she listened to God, trusted in His plan and responded with love and courage. In today’s Gospel, Mary praises God through her beautiful prayer, celebrating all that God has done for her and for His people.

Family Discussion

  1. Talk together about what you already know about Mary and why she is an important model of faith for Christians.
  2. Read Luke 1:39–56 together and listen for the ways Mary recognises God’s presence and action in her life.
  3. Discuss: Where can we see God working in our family, our school and our wider community?

Family Activity

Here are some different family activities that you may like to partake in together over the weekend:

  • Mary’s Garden: Plant a flower or small plant as a reminder of Mary and the way she nurtured and cared for Jesus.
  • Acts of Kindness: Choose one act of kindness your family can complete together, inspired by Mary’s love and care for others.
  • Family Prayer Jar: Write prayers of thanks on small pieces of paper and place them in a jar. Add to it throughout the week.
