Hi everyone,

Over the coming weeks, our Grade 3/4 and 5/6 classes will be participating in the Termly eSafety lessons.  This term, our session will be run by Mat and me during planning days.

Below is a summary of what each cohort will be covering.

Grade 3/4  eSafety Lesson 3 – “Be Secure - Part 2” 

This lesson builds on Be Secure – Part 1 and focuses on helping students understand privacy, personal information and safe online spending. Students learn how to protect their identity online, recognise unsafe situations and know who to ask for help if something doesn't feel right. 

What students will learn

1. Protecting personal information: Students explore what personal information is and why it should be kept private online. They discuss how location sharing works, the risks of sharing their location, and how information in photos can reveal where they live or go to school. 

2. Respecting privacy online: Working in groups, students investigate ways to protect their own privacy and respect the privacy of others. They learn about:

• creating strong passwords
• checking privacy settings on apps and games
• deciding what is safe (and unsafe) to post or share online. 

3. Spending money safely online: Students discuss how money is spent online through games, apps and websites. They learn to identify:

• in-app purchases and hidden costs
• fake or unsafe websites
• misleading pop-up advertisements
• steps to take before buying something online. 

4. Using trusted adults and the Ask–Check–Think strategy: Throughout the lesson, students practise asking themselves:

• Ask: Who can help me if I'm unsure?
• Check: Is this website, email or pop-up genuine?
• Think: What could happen if I click this link or spend money online? 

Grade 5/6 eSafety Lesson 3 – “Play it Safe & Fair Online” 

The lesson is about positive online behaviour, cyberbullying and knowing how to get help when something goes wrong online. 

Students explore how the internet can be used positively while also learning that they have a responsibility to respect and protect the rights of others online. They consider strategies for managing online risks and identify services that can support them if they experience an online issue. 

A major focus is cyberbullying. Students watch eSafety's Play it Safe Online resource featuring Australian athletes and discuss how negative comments and harassment can affect people. They also consider what they could do to support a friend experiencing cyberbullying. 

Students then explore an online eSafety Kids resource before completing a reflection task about how to report cyberbullying. They create a poster or Slides presentation explaining the steps someone can take to report a cyberbullying issue and access support. 

The key message from the lesson is - 

Enjoy the positive things the online world offers, treat others fairly and respectfully, and know what to do and where to get help if you or someone else experiences cyberbullying.

WPS Digital Learning Statement

Attached is the school’s digital statement outlining the online platforms and their privacy policies that the school uses on a day-to-day basis. 

As part of the school’s ongoing student education, the school will further enhance key understandings around user privacy, as well as the tools available on selected devices.

This will be embedded within the current school’s eSafety program that currently sees students undertake numerous digital workshops run by both school leadership, classroom teachers and external providers such as the Alannah and Madeline Foundation’s eSmart organisation.

Parents are advised of a key iPad feature to turn tracking off. This feature will be explicitly demonstrated to students within the school-based workshops.

Go to Settings > Privacy > Tracking.

The list shows the apps that requested permission to track you. You can turn permission on or off for any app on the list.

To stop all apps from asking permission to track you, turn off Allow Apps to Request to Track (at the top of the screen).

Below is a link to the schools Digital Learning page. This page contains key information about the school's implementation of the digital technology curriculum as a tool within a blended learning environment.

JB HiFi Digital Purchase Portal 2025/2026

The JB HiFi purchase portal is again available for Willy PS families. The schools recommended minimum specification device is the iPad Gen 9, but the portal does also offer a range of iPad models and accessories. Although students have access to bluetooth keyboards we also recommend the Smart Keyboard or a 3rd party keyboard incorporated within the cover. This accessory will add value to the users experience.

Please also note the change in School Code.

Although the portal is set up through JB HI-FI on behalf of the school, we encourage families to explore all purchase options.
