Welcome Baby to Country

Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Tradition

Gallery Image

Welcome Baby to Country is a deeply rooted Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tradition that honours a newborn's spiritual bond with the land of their birth and celebrates their place within the community, affirming belonging, identity, and connection to Country.

The Gundyarri Aboriginal Corporation, Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health Service (AMIHS),   and Building Stronger Foundations (BSF) teams based in Narrandera invited the Stars Foundation to be a part of the ceremony by helping with the running of the day. Tameika, Nykeisha, Cadence and Sienna each had a role to play. Sienna gave an acknowledgment to country while Tameika painted babies in ochre, and Nykeisha and Cadence helped our Midwife and Elders greet and gift the babies.

The girls enjoyed the day and are looking forward to contributing more to the community in future events.
