Middle School

Welcome back to another exciting year in Grade 3/4! The students have settled into the classroom routines beautifully and have made a wonderful start to the year. It has been fantastic to see students forming and maintaining positive friendships, showing respect for one another, and working together as a team. We are very proud of how students have worked together to make their classrooms an enjoyable and safe learning environment. 

Reading 

This year in reading we have introduced reading groups. Working in small groups encourages collaboration, discussion, and confidence, helping students learn from both the teacher and their peers. This approach ensures every student is appropriately challenged while receiving the support they need to grow as readers. The students have responded well to a different way of learning and it seems to be a great way to support everyone! 

Writing 

This term in writing began with recounts. This unit allowed students to have fun and enjoy the process of writing through making experiments and showing off their creativity with chalk! We have explored sentence structure, punctuation and descriptive language to improve our storytelling. Students were proud of the work they produced and looked forward to sharing their outstanding work with their classmates. 

Maths 

The students have been building their understanding of place value and the four operations. We have been practising strategies and clearly explaining our thinking through our working out. As we prepare for NAPLAN, we have been breaking down worded questions and using maths in games to make learning fun and meaningful.

Humanities 

The Grade 3/4 students have been exploring diversity, traditions and culture. We have enjoyed learning about the cultures within our class and sharing special family traditions, helping us grow as a connected community. Next, we will explore different community groups and how they help people. Be sure to ask one of our 3/4 students about the different cultures they have been learning about.
