News from One/Two

What a busy week we've had as we kicked off our swimming program! The students have been working hard, and I hope they enjoy a well-deserved rest over the weekend.
Maths – Fractions
Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring fractions, focusing on halves, quarters and eighths. Students have been learning to divide shapes and quantities into equal parts and recognise how these parts make up a whole. We created our own fraction caterpillars, compared equivalent fractions and practiced ordering fractions from smallest to largest. We also explored how fractions can be used in everyday situations, including measuring mass and capacity. To finish our learning, students investigated how to divide shapes, arrays and quantities into equal groups, strengthening their understanding of how fractions represent equal parts of a whole.
Literacy –
In Literacy, we have been building our fluency with tricky words through short, five-minute activities. Working in pairs, students take turns reading and spelling familiar tricky words before using them in their own sentences.
We have also been exploring new letter patterns and digraphs, including kn, ph, dge and tch. Students have been learning to recognise these patterns in words, as well as exploring how adding -er to some words can help us compare things, such as tall and taller.
Sentence Writing
- Statements, questions, commands and exclamations!
Inquiry -
Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring the special people, places and objects that hold meaning in our lives. After reading Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge, students created their own memory jars, sharing special memories and thinking about why certain people, places and objects are important to them.
Memory Jars
We have also been celebrating what makes each of us unique by exploring different families and the many ways they can look. Students created Venn diagrams to compare their own families with others, thinking about who we live with, the activities we enjoy together and what makes each family special. Through these activities, we have discovered that while every family is unique, we can also have lots of things in common!
Venn Diagrams
This activity helped us identify the differences and similarities in our family structures!
Upcoming Excursion- December 2nd TBC
This Term in Inquiry, we are planning on doing a lot of learning about the town of Yarra Junction and about people of a different generation. We are planning on having a Scavenger Hunt excursion and a walk down to Yarra Junction, including visiting the Yarra Junction Museum. We would love to invite parents and carers to join us for the walk and fun day, including a shared lunch at the park to end the day. If you think you would be interested in joining us, it would be great if you could complete the Parent Helper Course and have a current WWCC. Once you have completed these things, you are eligible to help out at school events and on excursions.

Please review the material contained in the presentation, follow the link on the last page, and work through the 16-question quiz carefully, referring back to the presentation as needed before answering. You will require 100% correct answers, so consider your answers carefully. In the event of errors, you can repeat the quiz.
Have a great weekend,
Tilly :)
