Think Mental Health School Surfing Titles

GSG had four students represent the school at the Think Mental Health School Surfing Titles last week, held for the first time at the new Middleton Reef.

There were some challenging conditions, but Jade Thomas (Year Eight) and Maggie Stephens (Year Eight) did GSG proud, just missing out on progressing to the semifinal.

The boys were always in with a good chance, with Tyce Shepherd (Year Twelve) having won the local Boardriders open men’s competition the weekend before, and Kalgan Simmons (Year Eleven) winning the under-18 event a month earlier.

They won each of their heats throughout the day before making it all the way to the finals, where they ultimately won the Senior Boys division.

They will now go on to represent the Great Southern in the LID division at the State Final in Perth in late August.

On Friday night, our Year Twelve Certificate II Hospitality students proudly served a four-course meal to 200 guests at the annual Gate2Plate Awards Dinner held at Retravision Stadium. Under the guidance of the venue manager, students demonstrated exceptional teamwork, professionalism and hospitality skills, representing Great Southern Grammar with pride in front of staff, guests, Principal Mr Mathew Irving and Mrs Liz Irving, and Hospitality teacher Mrs Teresa McAllister, an outstanding group of students who truly impressed everyone in attendance!

VET Music Show Two

On a cold, frosty Wednesday evening, VET Music Show Two was held in the Hall. The packed audience thoroughly enjoyed their cheese boxes, hot coffees and chocolates, expertly prepared by the Year Twelve Hospitality students.

Thank you to the Year Twelve Hospitality students and Mrs Teresa McAllister for partnering with the Music Department to support this event. The show featured an eclectic mix of music, ranging from iconic hits by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Queen to performances inspired by Lake Street Dive and Sammy G.

The evening showcased many standout performances by our incredibly talented music students, who should all be very proud of their efforts. A huge thank you to Mr Joe Fowler for his dedication and hard work in preparing the students for this show.

Photography can be challenging in the Hall due to the limited lighting, but we are pleased to share a few photos from the night below.
