School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports

SWPBS - Walking Home in Our Community

One of the things we love most about Wonga Park Primary School is the strong sense of community that makes our school such a special place. It is wonderful to see students and families walking to and from school, greeting neighbours, connecting with friends and enjoying the local area. Walking home not only promotes healthy and active lifestyles, but also helps students develop independence and a sense of belonging within our community.

As more students choose to walk home, we encourage families to discuss safe and responsible walking habits that help keep everyone safe.

Be Kind

  • Use friendly and respectful words and actions.
  • Show consideration for neighbours, community members and other pedestrians.
  • Include others and help younger students when appropriate.
  • Respect private property and community spaces.

Be Safe

  • Walk on footpaths wherever possible.
  • Cross roads at designated crossings and use the "stop, look, listen and think" strategy before crossing.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings and avoid distractions near roads.
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
  • Follow your family's agreed route home.

Be a Learner

  • Follow instructions and expectations from trusted adults.
  • Make sensible choices and demonstrate responsible behaviour.
  • Use what you have learned about road safety and personal safety when travelling home.

By working together, families and the school can help students develop the skills and confidence to travel safely while being positive representatives of Wonga Park Primary School, both at school and in the wider community.
