As the school year continues to gather momentum with exciting events such as the production, extracurricular opportunities, and the first signs of House Performing Arts Festival on the horizon, another much-loved celebration is fast approaching. From 24–28 August, Nossal High School will be celebrating Book Week 2026, inspired by this year’s theme, Symphony of Stories.

So, what exactly is Book Week?

At its heart, Book Week is a celebration of literature and the powerful role stories play in our lives. It encourages us to explore new perspectives, expand our understanding of the world, and discover the joy of reading.

For students experiencing Book Week at Nossal for the first time, prepare to see just how enthusiastically our community embraces this annual tradition. For returning students, it’s another opportunity to get involved, challenge yourself, and enjoy a range of exciting activities.

One of the highlights of the week is undoubtedly the Book Week Dress-Up Day. Students are invited to come dressed as their favourite book characters, with a parade showcasing the creativity and effort of participants as they compete for top honours.

Throughout the week, visiting authors will also share their experiences and insights, offering valuable perspectives on writing, reading, and the importance of literature beyond the classroom.

Book Week also brings a range of friendly competitions, including the Spelling Bee and the Interhouse Quiz. These events put students’ literacy and general knowledge skills to the test while adding a healthy dose of house rivalry. Better yet, participation contributes valuable House Points, helping your house climb the leaderboard.

And that’s not all—an exciting new mystery event is set to make its debut this year, with something at stake for every participant.

Book Week may still be a few weeks away, but it will arrive sooner than you think. Keep an eye out for further announcements, start planning your costume, and get ready to join the celebration of stories, imagination, and creativity!
