Region Cross Country

On Tuesday 9 June, the Nossal team competed in the South-Eastern Metro Regional Cross Country in Hastings. The day began in a picturesque manner. It turns out that the track was along Western Port Bay, meaning some great views (though some very chilly wind). Our teams, consisting of the 17-20s boys and girls, 16s boys and girls, 15 boys and girls, and 14 girls, were all raring to compete. As well as this, we also had 40 individual runners.

The first race of the day was the 17-20 boys, in which Dinath Silva of Year 11 placed 7th, with a time of 17:54, a truly incredible achievement.

The next race was the 16 boys, also 5km. Unfortunately, we had no placings in this category, but this was not due a lack of effort from the boys. We applaud them all the same.

However, the next race, 17-20 girls was a momentous success! Our team, consisting of only three runners rather than the usual four, came third overall! Congratulations to Kenisha Patel, Ket Win, and Astrid Popa. Additionally, Astrid came 10th individually. Well done girls!

The rest of the day was unfortunately not populated with many placings; however, mention must be given to Aditya Singh of Year 9, placing 9th individually in 15 boys.

The day was great, as we met with two of the other select entry schools - Melbourne High and MacRob - as well as many other government schools from around the state. We also spent time bonding, pushing ourselves to the limit, and cheering each other on. Overall, we can all agree it was a great experience.

I'd like to thank Mr Christiansen and Kamimura sensei for accompanying us and cheering us on. I’d also like to thank Mr Sacco for the immense BTS work to organise such a large event. Lastly, I'd like again to congratulate Dinath, Astrid, and Aditya, as they will also all be competing in SSV State Cross Country later this year.

Senior Boys AFL

On Thursday 28 May, the Senior Boys had a go at Australian Rules Football. Despite only having a few players who had ever played before, we all turned up ready, excited, and passionate for the sport and the opportunity to represent Nossal against the rest of the district.

The day started with a warm-up at the school gym, where we hit the weights in preparation for the tough day to come. Pumped and ready, we hopped on the bus and drove to Hallam Recreation Reserve.

We were greeted at the oval by Kafil Slade, an alumni and legend footy player from Nossal. We went into the changing rooms, ready to give Berwick a thrashing. However, despite playing our hearts out, we barely came out second best (scores below).

However, our efforts were rewarded as we got to watch an absolute killer of a game between Hallam and Berwick. It was a great watch, and I'm sure many of those boys have futures playing AFL.

Then it was our turn to play Hallam, and let's just say they were having a little too much fun. When I say that, I mean they donated a couple of players to our team to stop their own team from scoring, and we still conceded.

And now… the final scores you have been waiting for! Drum roll… the whole day, we almost scored a point! Yep. You read that right.

Despite all of this, we did get Macca's on the way home, so the day was an absolute win in all our eyes. I'd like to thank the lads for having a crack and I'd like to thank Mr Baxter for putting up with us. Names will not be named, but a certain star player did get the ball and run the wrong way at some point… great day and we're ready for our revenge next year!

Casey North Division Badminton - Intermediate and Senior Boys / Girls 2026

On Tuesday 2 June, Nossal High School's Inter girls and boys badminton teams competed in the Inter Division Badminton competition held at Sports Arena in Clyde North. Competing against strong opposition from other schools across Casey North, including Doveton, Fountain Gate and Gleneagles, it was clear that the competition between the schools was highly competitive, with all teams demonstrating skill, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day.

The Nossal Boys A played exceptionally well against the likes of Kambrya College, Officer Secondary, Gleneagles Secondary, and Edenbrook. With every shot played and every point taken, our team’s confidence grew, showcasing our skill, strong teamwork, and support for one another. The high level of play showed the effort, consistency and passion our players have for the sport.

The girls’ teams were equally as dominant throughout the competition. The Girls A team secured first place, demonstrating great skill. Meanwhile, the Girls B team followed closely in 2nd place. I am very proud of what we have achieved and look forward to the future of Nossal badminton. Thank you to Jashet, Samarth, Shua, Nikhilesh, Arpita, Sayu, Gowri, Chiru, Sachin, Jeremey, Nia, Joanna, Siddhi and Alice for a great day! We are looking forward to playing our Southern Metropolitan Regional Final early next term, Go Nossal!

We also just wanted to say a big thanks to Mr Hu for accompanying the Seniors on the day and Mr Armistead for accompanying the Inters teams, hosting the tryouts and facilitating Nossal Social badminton club each Friday morning before school so that anyone with any skill level can get involved with this great sport. Thank you to Mr. Sacco for helping organise our events!
