Longerenong Experience

On the first week of the holidays, from Monday the 23rd to Wednesday the 25th September, three of us were fortunate to be sponsored by the Rotary Club of Beaufort to attend the Defying The Drift program at Longerenong College.

The program aims to close the gap between young people in agriculture. It consisted of three full days of activities and trips, that improved our knowledge about agricultural practices and pathways as well as our public speaking skills. We visited various farms and businesses in agriculture, and learned just how much the industry can vary. These three days allowed us to network and meet people our age, who share an interest in the industry. We have made connections that will follow us through our lives and aid us on our future pathways. The difference from when we walked into ‘Longy’ College on Monday, to when we departed on Wednesday is remarkable. We left feeling inspired, with greater confidence in ourselves and the passion we all share for agriculture.

We encourage anyone who is interested in the agriculture industry to take part in the program in future years, as it is an incredible opportunity and the skills, knowledge and connections you gain from the experience are extremely valuable. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Beaufort for sponsoring the three of us and allowing us to experience this great program.
