Outdoor Ed Camp

The camp started off with a quiet and soothing one-and-a-half-hour bus ride, preparing us for the immense fun that was to come. During of the trip, we played a game of Spoto, before making it to the Anglesea Scout Lodge. Our first priority was to transport our hiking packs and tents off the buses and over to the camping assembly spot. Then it was a race for everyone to choose the best spot for their tent, with some groups getting quite creative when setting up their area.

It wasn’t long until we headed for the low ropes course. Everyone found this to be so much fun, with the group displaying teamwork and resilience throughout the circuit. Once we had been through the course a few times, we all decided it was time to head back. After getting back, we started preparing to cook our first meal of the camp on the Trangia’s. It was a rewarding feeling to sit down after a long day and cook a good, nutritious and yummy meal.

The second day was the most challenging for the group, as we had to hike from Anglesea to Torquay.  The day started off by making some breakfast, fuelling our bodies for what was to be a big day ahead of us. We began our hike on a beautifully scenic path, allowing us to observe the different flora and fauna we encountered on the way. There were easy and not so easy paths along the walk, especially, a challenging beach crossing with our packs, although everyone gave it a good go and made it to the end. We reached Point Addis but continued on further down the track, before stopping for lunch in the bush. After lunch, we continued our hike, making it to Bells Beach before taking another break. While there, we had the cool experience of spotting a whale, talk about perfect timing!

It wasn’t long after that, that we made our way to Torquay. It was a nice afternoon and we set up camp for the night at the Foreshore Caravan Park. Everyone had a blast on the jumping pillow and oval, though it wasn’t long before we headed back to our campsite to prepare our last dinner for the trip. Later in the evening we were joined by a family of possums as they clambered up and down the trees within our campsite.

On the last day we went surfing at Torquay Back Beach. The conditions were windy and ideal for surfing, making it a good day to hit the water. Everyone had a red hot go, catching waves and enduring the unpredictable elements. After getting out of our wetsuits, the teachers allowed us the privilege of getting ice-cream as a special treat. Overall it was a great camp, enjoyed by all. Thanks to Miss Hughes, Mr Severino, Ms Fisher and Mr Wright for sharing this experience with us and making it possible!
