STEM Discovery Challenge

When we first arrived at Mentone, we were very excited.
The first challenge we did was the cup challenge. We had to use a rubberband tied to string to make a statue out of cups as fast as we could. Isla did an awesome job at telling us to pull the string at the right time.
Our next challenge was called sphereo. Basically, we had to program a mechanical sphere and make it go through a bunch of tracks like a maze with obstacles. Jasmine coded the sphereo really well.
The next one we did was called the egg drop. We got a bin bag, some cardboard, rubber bands, a few straws, some sticky tape, string and cotton balls. That was all we had and we successfully didn’t crack the egg. I think Shanaia’s egg helmet definitely helped.
In the sink or swim challenge we had to make boats that had to survive a mini pool. We had to drop in 10 marbles and hope that the boat didn’t sink while it got blown with a fan across the pool. The fastest one would win. Some did not make it, some did sink. I'm just glad that wasn’t ours. Evie was good at problem-solving because she figured out that our sail didn’t work because we put too much weight on one side.
In the spaghetti challenge we had to make a tower out of spaghetti and hope it was the tallest. We only got blue tack, tape and spaghetti. Jasmine and Shanaia were very good at stretching out the blue tack ready to go, also ripping the tape into smaller pieces. Evie was very good at making sure we had a strong base. Thank you for that awesome knowledge with knowing triangles are a stronger shape then squares. Isla was very good at making sure the pasta was very even and perfect.
