Clay Target Championship
On Tuesday 10 March, five of our students represented the school at the Riviera Secondary Schools Clay Target Championship held at Bairnsdale Field & Game. Wyatt Jones, Rex Elliot, Archie Conway, Isla Hawkins and Gemma Derrix all travelled to compete in what turned out to be a fantastic day for the event. Weather conditions were perfect, providing an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their skills and enjoy the experience of competing against other schools in the region. A special congratulations goes to our very own Gemma Derrix, who placed 1st in her age group with an impressive score of 15 out of 20 points. Congratulations Gemma, on a fantastic achievement, and well done to all five students for representing the school to such a high standard.
SSV Wellington Volleyball
Maffra Secondary College proudly represented our school at the SSV Wellington Volleyball competition held on Friday 27 March at Latrobe Leisure, Morwell. With an impressive seven teams entered across multiple divisions, it was fantastic to see such strong participation, enthusiasm, and teamwork on display.
Throughout the day, our students demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, resilience, and commitment. Each team showed growth in their skills, communication, and ability to work together under pressure, with many tightly contested matches highlighting their determination and effort.
We are especially proud to celebrate that our senior and intermediate boys teams were successful in progressing through to the next round. This is a fantastic achievement, and a reflection of the hard work students have put into both training and competition.
Beyond the results, the day was a great example of our school values in action. Students supported one another, encouraged their peers, and represented Maffra Secondary College with pride and respect.
A big thank you to staff, parents and organisers for their support in making the day possible, and congratulations to all students involved. We look forward to seeing our advancing teams continue their success in the next stage of competition!
Wellington Regional Tennis
On Wednesday 25th March, 13 students represented Maffra Secondary College at the Wellington Divisional Tennis Tournament in Traralgon. The weather was a bright, sunny day- perfect for a few rounds of competitive tennis.
Students were enthusiastic to organise their doubles pairings and took on the responsibility of keeping score for their own matches.
Our Junior Girls and Boys played valiantly in both singles and doubles but weren’t able to overcome some very talented competitors.
There were some very competitive matches at the Intermediate Boys level, with losses and a few hard-fought wins. Our Mixed Senior team had a string of victories in both singles and doubles matches, ensuring they progress to the next round.
All students played with excellent sportsmanship and represented the school well. Well done to everyone who participated, and good luck to those students who continue on to the next round!
