In the coming weeks library and Middle Years staff will be recruiting for the Year 7 Readers’ Cup competition. Three to four students from each class will form a team, read 3 set books, make a book trailer, and compete in a quiz to win the trophy (and the glory) in Term 2. The top three teams will receive a pizza lunch!

Our Regular Readers Raffle is held each term for keen readers. A student seen reading in the library (outside of class time) three times during the term will receive one “raffle ticket” and have the chance to win cafeteria vouchers in the draw held at the end of term. The more times they are seen reading, the more chance they will have of winning.

The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge will open soon! The challenge is open to students in Years 7 to 10, and those who sign-up are required to read at least 15 books by early September. Students who complete the Challenge are given a pizza lunch and go into a draw to win a Dymocks gift voucher later in the year. Ask a library staff member how to sign up!

A wrinkle in time

by Madeleine L’Engle

A wrinkle in time is a classic children’s story which has stood the test of time thanks to its originality and unique characters.

When mysterious new neighbours, Mrs Who, Mrs Which, and Mrs Whatsit, move in next-door, 13-year-old Meg Murry and younger brother Charles are swept away on a quest to find their missing father. The siblings and their new friend Calvin cross time and space in a story which blends science fiction and fantasy.

The love of friends and family is an important theme in this story, as well as self-acceptance and individuality – it is these qualities that the characters draw on throughout their journey as they battle dark and mysterious forces while trying to free Mr Murry. A wrinkle in time is a truly distinctive and memorable tale.

If you happen to read this book and enjoy it, its sequels are available from Geelong Regional Libraries as books and ebooks.
