Last week was our first of three Gymnastics sessions where we stayed warm and cosy indoors. Our Junior students practised different movement styles like jumping, crawling, rolling and twisting and performed a range of body shapes and balances. Our Senior students took this further to perform bridges, partner balances and pyramids. They worked cooperatively with their partners to make up routines with a given sequence of shapes and balances to perform to the class. We have some very talented students across all levels who are already very skilled and talented in gymnastics! Check out the photos.
Upcoming PE Events This Term
We will be holding tryouts for Basketball this week on Thursday at lunch play. We are very lucky to have Kim and Molly from Westernport Basketball to assist with refereeing and selections. We will form a boys and a girls team, made up of 10 players each, to represent St. Brendan’s at the upcoming Lightning Premiership.
Coming up in Week 4, on Thursday 14th August, all students in Years 3 to 6 will be participating in the Parish Schools Athletics Carnival (St Mary’s, St Joseph’s and St Brendan’s). The event is to be held at the Westernport Athletics Track, located at Westernport Secondary College, High St, Hastings from 9:15 until 2:15pm.
A note will be sent home this week detailing all the information. We are looking for ten parent volunteers to assist on the day. If you are available and would like to help out, please email me at tpeacock@sbsomerville.catholic.edu.au. It should be a fantastic day!
