Community Update

On the 5th of April, we witnessed a magical evening that truly exemplified the power of community and connection. Our sold-out Acacias Ball brought together a room filled with love and unforgettable moments. From the very start, the atmosphere was intangible.

We welcomed back old scholars Helen McCabe and Jessica Adamson, who introduced us to what would become an unforgettable night. Our special guest and Loreto Marryatville old scholar, Hugh Sheridan, took to the stage to open the first of many exceptional entertainment acts for the evening. His energy was infectious, and his connection to the crowd as an old scholar brought an extra layer of warmth to the evening, setting the tone for a night filled with nostalgia, talent, and fun.

As an old scholar, a true highlight was watching what began as a small, eight-person old scholar choir, grow into a 50-guest on-stage performance of Queen of Loreto. A moment that captured the true Loreto spirit—something we so often find hard to put into words.

The uniform parade added a nostalgic touch, as our senior students showcased past uniforms from over the decades throughout the room—a beautiful snippet into the history of the College. The History Corner offered guests a journey through time, inviting them to flip through every yearbook since the 1950s. And of course, the cartoonist proved a hit - there were definitely a few drawings taken home that night for the pool room!

A late addition to our auction was the opportunity to share the stage with Hugh Sheridan, a prize won by a group of our senior school dads. Their spontaneous rendition of Sweet Caroline was an absolute highlight of the evening, and even more impressive given they only had about three minutes to prepare — Broadway may be in their future! This was the perfect segue into the dance floor opening, led by our incredible 6-piece band, Jazz It Up. Their performance kept the dance floor full for the rest of the evening.

The evening’s success was further reflected through our fundraising efforts, with the event raising over $60,000 — well beyond expectations. This was made possible by the incredible generosity of our sponsors. The funds raised will support the restoration of our beloved, heritage-listed Acacias building, preserving its legacy for generations to come.

A special thank you to our sponsors:

And of course, the Loreto Old Scholars Association (LOSA), whose support was invaluable.

A huge thank you also to our fabulous auctioneer, Phil Harris, and to all the incredible bidders in the room - you left us floored with your generosity.

We sincerely thank everyone who was part of this evening and who contributed in the lead-up. From the volunteers who gave up their time to style and set up the space, to the donors and purchasers of raffle and auction items, the incredible students who performed on the evening, the staff who assisted in the lead up and on the night, and of course everyone who came along to support the College. It was a night that will be remembered for the warmth, camaraderie, and love that filled the room.
