Term 2 Information
The winter sport season commenced last week, with over 35 teams taking to the court, field, or stage. All students playing sport should have received an email with their team’s draw for the first five games. After five weeks, SACSSGSA will re-grade teams and a fixture for the rest of the season will be released.

Aerobics
Good luck to our Aerobics teams LC Divas, Gems, Diamonds, Dream and Funk who will be competing in the FISAF Super Series this Saturday! It is the first aerobics event of the year, so everyone is very excited. The teams and coaches have been working hard under the guidance of Ms Woods and we can’t wait to see them in action!
Swimming
Well done to Abigail Pyragius, Kate Li, Colette Cheng and Sadie Marks who represented the East Adelaide SAPSASA district at the State Swimming Championships last term.
The event was held at the State Swimming Centre, Marion. The best swimmers from all over South Australia were competing, and the Loreto girls did a terrific job in their events:
- Kate’s team came 4th in the 4 x 50m freestyle relay
- Sadie’s relay team came 2nd
- Colette’s relay team also came 2nd
- Abigail swum 35.80 seconds in her 50m freestyle race, smashing her Personal Best by 3 seconds
The East Adelaide swim team finished in 2nd place overall in the Division 1 competition.
Congratulations, girls! You put in so much hard work to get there and handled the pressure of the occasion brilliantly.
Cross Country
There is plenty of running on this term! Our Monday morning trainings have begun, and we also had a group compete in the SAAS Shield at St Peters College on Wednesday afternoon. On Friday a team of runners will be heading to Foxfield Oval, Athelstone for the SAPSASA Cross Country Trials.
In Term 3 Loreto competes in the Catholic Schools Carnival in the east parklands. This event is open to students in Years 3-6. Ms Edwards will be putting students through their paces during PE classes this term to help select our team for this event.
Athletics
We have two more sessions remaining of our autumn athletics season, culminating in the LORETOlympics on May 22. This is a mini athletics carnival, with medals up for grabs in running, long jump, high jump, discus and shot put.
There will also be a spring season of athletics later this year, running from August to October. Registration for the spring season will open just prior to the July school holidays.
Winter Sport up and running
Our Year 4/5/6 AFLW team started their season with a bang, defeating Pembroke by 91 points in their Round 1 match on Tuesday. Several of our players were playing their first ever games of football and took to it quickly. It was pleasing to see players sharing the ball around and working hard back into defence.
We have also had our winter volleyball, soccer and netball teams get their seasons underway over the last week.
If your daughter hasn’t yet signed up for a winter sport but would like to, please contact Ben.Johnswood@loreto.sa.edu.au.

Generations in Jazz – A Celebration of Talent and Teamwork
Last weekend, 52 of our talented students from Loreto’s vocal ensembles, quintets, and stage band travelled to Mount Gambier to take part in the renowned Generations in Jazz competition. This national event is Australia’s largest and most prestigious jazz festival, and it offered an unforgettable weekend filled with music, energy, and camaraderie.
Our students performed in some of the highest-level categories, including Division 1 Large and Small Vocal Ensemble — a division that only eight schools from over one hundred nationwide qualified for. This outstanding accomplishment is a reflection of the incredible skill, dedication, and hard work our students bring to their music.
Special congratulations to Cleo Murray (Yr 9) for being awarded The Callisto Family Award: Div 2 Most Promising Soloist.
Congratulations once again to all our performers. You represented Loreto with pride, passion, and professionalism — and we couldn’t be prouder.
