Grade 5

It has been wonderful to welcome our students back for the final term of Grade 5. They have returned with enthusiasm and a positive mindset, quickly settling back into classroom routines and reconnecting with their learning. With so much to look forward to this term, we are excited for the learning, celebrations and special moments that lie ahead.
ENGLISH
This term in English, our Grade 5 students are developing their persuasive writing skills and learning how to communicate their opinions and ideas in a clear and convincing way. Students are exploring how writers achieve their purpose, identify their intended audience and use language to influence their readers. We are focusing on techniques such as comparative and emotive language to strengthen arguments, engage readers and encourage them to consider different perspectives. Students are also learning how to structure their arguments effectively and write strong conclusions that leave a lasting impression.
Alongside our writing, students are continuing to develop their reading and comprehension skills through Literature Circles. These discussions encourage students to go deeper into literature by exploring characters, themes, ideas and language, while asking thoughtful questions and sharing their interpretations with others. It has been wonderful to see our Grade 5 students building confidence in expressing their ideas, thinking critically and learning from the perspectives of their peers.
MATHS
This term in Maths, our Grade 5 students have been building their multiplication skills and applying their mathematical thinking to real-world problems. Through our Oatlands Show unit, students are exploring money, budgeting and problem-solving as they design their own showbags, carefully selecting items, calculating costs and considering selling prices and potential profits. We are also exploring probability, with students learning to describe the likelihood of events, make predictions and consider the different outcomes that can occur. These activities provide wonderful opportunities for students to develop their confidence, explain their reasoning and see how Maths connects to everyday life.
INTEGRATED
This term in Integrated Studies, our Grade 5 students are focusing on leadership as they begin preparing for their transition into school leaders in 2027. Students are exploring the qualities and responsibilities of effective leaders, reflecting on their own strengths and considering how they can make a positive contribution to our school community. Through discussions and activities, they are developing an understanding of how leadership involves responsibility, teamwork, respect and leading by example. We are excited to see our students embrace these opportunities, build their confidence and begin thinking about the kind of leaders they would like to be as they take on this important role next year.
SCHOOL PRODUCTION
Excitement is building as our Grade 5 students get ready to begin rehearsals for the upcoming School Production! We can’t wait to see them bring their energy, enthusiasm and creativity to the stage as they learn their choreography, develop their performance skills and work together as a team. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to build confidence, try something new and create special memories with their classmates. We are so excited to see them embrace this experience and look forward to sharing their performance with our school community!
Term 4 is an exciting time for our Grade 5 students as they take on new responsibilities and begin to see themselves as the leaders of our school. As our senior students, they have many wonderful opportunities to put their leadership skills into practice, support younger students and make a positive difference within our school community. We are so proud to watch them grow in confidence, embrace new challenges and demonstrate the kindness, maturity and responsibility that great leaders show. Whether they are leading by example, offering a helping hand or encouraging those around them, these everyday actions help create a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone. We look forward to seeing our Grade 5 students continue to flourish and make the most of this special final term together.
