MAST Professional Development

On Wednesday, Amy Phillips and I were able to attend this term's MaST/LoP workshop in Tamworth. We are excited about the roll out of a supporting resource that will allow staff to find retrieval practice questions for both Maths and English. This valuable resource will be able to be used during guided practice time during the literacy and numeracy blocks.

We were also lucky enough to visit St Edward’s in Tamworth and see their numeracy block in action. It was fabulous to have the opportunity to observe math teaching in action, see maths learning activities, and speak with other educators about their strategies. It was also wonderful for us to be reaffirmed in the work our school is doing with the similarities across the diocese that allow us to create learning environments that lead to literate and numerate students for a hope-filled future.

For the last session we did some moderation marking of math's assessments. Again this was an opportunity for us to work with other educators from across the diocese to ensure there is consistent and fair grading when using the common grade scale (A-E).

COLD WRITE

This week we completed the third Cold or Warm Write for the year. The data collected from the piece of writing helps to track student progress in writing over the year. All of the pieces of writing are marked against a level of The Australian Criterion Scale. Teachers then identify students' writing strengths and weaknesses so they can work collaboratively with the students to improve their writing, and continue to up date learning goals.
