Sunday's Gospel    Matthew 13:44-52

In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a hidden treasure, a pearl of great value and a net cast into the sea. Each image reminds us that the most valuable things in life are not always immediately visible. They are discovered through patience, commitment and the wisdom to recognise what truly matters.

This message speaks strongly to us at St Mary’s. Growth takes time. Seeds are planted before results can be seen, progress cannot be rushed, and much of the important work happens quietly and without recognition. It requires trust, perseverance and the ability to see possibility even when the outcome is not yet clear.

The same is true in education and in our lives. The care we show, the lessons we teach, the encouragement we give and the example we set may not bear fruit straight away. However, these small and faithful actions are treasures that shape the lives of others.

Jesus challenges us to consider what we value most. May we continue to recognise the treasure found in our children, our families, our faith and our St Mary’s community. May we remain patient, hopeful and willing to invest in what will bring lasting growth.

Bishop's installation

Preparations are now being finalised for next week's installation of Bishop René as the ninth Bishop of Sandhurst at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bendigo. We look forward to welcoming Bishop René into his ministry among us.
